Hot summer, few slices of sweet Pinaple would refresh us. Yes, this addition of fruit on our roof added about four years ago. I could still remember I bought a few Pineapple and they were sweet and I immediately thought to plant them but I did not know how to grow them. So take the help of YouTube!

I have selected a couple of fresh Pineapples and separate the leaves part from the fruits, its better to separate by hand instead of a knife and it is easy- just bend and twist. After separation from the fruit, I soak the base in water for a couple of weeks. If you use a glass jer you would able to see the roots coming out and it would be ready to plant.

I was too happy to watch them having roots and took them to our village home so that my Mom could grow them as she loves the plants and trees. Within a year and a half, we had our very first Pineapple and the picture you are seeing here is that one. The first fruit was very big for some reason! The mother was a tiny one as these are sweeter however, it is also sweet.

We have used a Treepot initially but soon just after the first fruit, it was spreading dramatically from one to another and another. So we had to move the main root from the Treepot to a bed prepared by my Mom on the roof. We have three beds like this on our roof one for only Pinaples another one for vegetables like Spinach, Malabar spinach, Red spinach and of course Jute Mallow! I do know how many have you tried Jut Mallow fry or consume with lentils soup (Dal).

There are many health benefits of Pineapple as it is loaded with nutrients (huge calories, vitamin C, B6, Fat, etc.) and help to reduce the risk of cancer. It may boost immunity and suppress inflammation so it is good during this pandemic. A patient with surgery could find Pinapale usable as it may speed the recovery of surgery or strenuous exercise. Most importantly it is healthy and delicious and could be used along with various foods for breakfast, salad, lunch, or dinner.

Finally, I would like to say it is easy to find and required less effort to grow besides, it is loaded with nutrients and antioxidants so this is a must-have if you do oof gardening. *If you are interested have a look at my previous post of the series "My Mom Grow Everything On Our Roof!"* *1.
