Assoc. Dr. Afşin Emre Lostmaz made the following suggestions regarding the use of double masks and washable cloth masks:
-
A properly fitted single mask, rather than a double-layered mask, is sufficient when physical distance is maintained. However, there is no harm in wearing a double mask.
-
Washable masks can also be used in this process. Washable masks, which are produced from synthetic or natural fiber in accordance with the rules of the Turkish Standards Institute, act as a barrier for droplets larger than 3 microns, and contain information on when to change the package and how many times they can be washed, should be preferred.
-
Washable masks produced in accordance with these rules are healthy. After each use outside, the masks must be thoroughly washed and rinsed with soapy or detergent water upon returning home. Although the recommended temperature is 60 degrees and above, this is not possible in hand washing. In this case, water at a temperature that will not burn hands may be preferred. Detergent inhalation should not be a concern after rinsing is well done. The mask must be resistant to washing and drying at least 5 times.
