Kansa is a malleable metal as a result it has found usability via multiple form factors. It has become very popular of late as a massager however until about a couple of decades back Kansa was used to make utensils. This was owing to the fact that apart from the health benefits, Kansa does not require any maintenance and is naturally corrosion resistant.
The uses of Kansa in our day to day life
As per Ayurveda the benefits of Kansa are many. Creating a metal like Kansa was the best way to imbibe the benefits of copper while avoiding the negatives.
Unlike other metals which may react with food, Kansa is inert and thus is excellent for cooking, eating & storing food. Our bodies are primarily made of three components, Vata , Pita and Kabha. Kansa plays the role of balancing these three aspects in our bodies, thus keeping healthy and sound.
Kansa also has a lot of antiseptic properties; it sterilizes the surface making it ideal to make utensils for eating and drinking.
Kansa was and in many parts of India is still used to store water. Water stored in Kansa is imbibed with positive vibrations and as per tradition does not go bad.
The copper in Kansa ensures that we have a smooth digestion. It also, relives our join pains and ensures that we have enough copper in our body to keep our thyroid active. It enhances our brain function, heart health, Works as a anti-oxidant and enhances our immunity. In short, Its magic!
Kansa while being corrosion resistant can lose its lustre over time. However, that can be easily countered by using Bhasma (Organic Ash) or tamarind pulp to polish. If you are not a DIY person then you can pick up Brasso from your local hardware shop.
Apart from the above Kansa also has various beauty, wellness, medicinal and lifestyle related benefits that are beyond the scope of this article. You can look up the same.
