I am in a good mood and wanna spread some luuuv, welcome to my journal I started 4 months ago.
It's that time of the month, nice to see you around, grab your coffee and let's check what happened in this part of the world, we are in the South of France, it's spring, cicadas are singing, a warm cool breeze gently brings you smells of figs, rain, and cow dungs (occasionally).
This is also, coincidally my entry for the Garden Journal, (sorry there's way more than 10 pictures, so no worry If you can't accept my post).
It's actually very good that little journal. It allows me to assess what's up, to take a good look at what has been accomplished, if none.
I have to be honest, I did not have the time to make some music lately, between taking care of the kids and the farm, I unfortunately don't have enough hours in a day, and had to prioritize a little. I knew it would be the case, and only now I am at peace with it!
You will notice that compared to last month, I didn't take too many pictures of the farm progression ,it's because I lost my phone and all the pictures I started taking at the beginning of the month. Of course it made me slow down in my social media activities, it might also have had an impact on music as it took my mind off the rat race for a while, it was nice.
More tools broke, I am probably not doing it the right way
My daughter Mischa is the most proactive of my 3 children, she always wants to help, but I try to do most of the work alone, you will see why in a second. Man, I have to admit that we forgot how dreadful life in a city is, and it's hard to conceive that less than a year ago, we were right in it, always dragged down by other people's energies, and living in the middle of nature changed how we conceive life, and helped us keeping an eagle eye view, seeing the dangers coming ahead, that can come in many forms.
My wife came face to face with a snake, while I was gone visiting a friend, it's Charlie one of our dog that found it. It was ready to spring, we are thinking that it's probably a whip snake which is called a couleuvre verte et jaune in French.
It's harmless, but still I can hear on the phone with my wife, that everything in her body told her to run away from the snake.
It's interesting to notice that as my wife come to South Africa, everything in her very core is telling her to run the fuck away from a snake, that's how her lineage survived, by being very careful around snakes is useful, especially the ones in SA are the deadliest in the world, so it might just be the expression of her DNA (epigenetics), even if this one was harmless, we do have vipers around here, also I've been told that they are mostly all gone.
Another interesting fact to ponder on, is that people aren't scared here of having their chicken roaming around, as they apparently kill some snakes, which would also be a rarity in South Africa, as the snakes always win.
Speaking of which, here is our chicken crew, I gave them the rest of the cherries, grapes, and other fruits, and I think they are a little bit spoiled haha. 😁
They are giving us massive eggs, so I am not complaining. Angela (who is walking away), is getting broody so we might separate her and get her to work, I've never done this before so it's gonna be fun.
It's almost like playing the guitar
tomatoes
I grew them from seeds, and I am just going to add some more until September, my neighbour just told me that he added insecticide/pesticide on my plants (of course without my consent), we've had so much rain in the last few days, this picture was taken few weeks ago, you will see how much they grow later on.
Radishes (I thought there were beetroots for 2 weeks)
I completely forgot I sowed radishes, only to realise that I am the only one that like them, my children and wife aren't fans, and my friends don't want any neither. They are quite peppery, closer to wasabi.
Radishes are my fav, probably coming from a time where we used to eat'em with my pop, digging a cut in the radish, placing some good butter on it, and dip it in sea salt. Just delicious.
Red cabbages
These cabbages are super healthy, and really resistant to diseases. I grew them in pots before transplanting them, it's also a first for me.
strawberries
So, because I did not have too many pictures of the progression, I decided to go around and take a few shots, so you can see what I am currently growing.
I am a bit late, but I've sowed cucumber seeds, butternuts seeds, watermelon seeds, more herbs,
I finally managed to clear the fig tree tall grass, which took me few months to do so.
I am about to throw so manure on the onions, they're doing fine, though I feels that they've been growing forever.
I think this is a lettuce, or Kale? No idea.
That's definitely coriander, and I've already pulled half of it. I used it last week in the ratatouille, and with a potatoes and garlic bake.
Just experimenting with leeks, they were sown in pots
It is long overdue to pull all the radishes as you can see this morning, I will probably pickle them.
Lettuce
I remember also sowing this, but no idea what it is
That's pepper
Corn and bean experiment
Tomatoes are looking good now, They aren't climbing too much on the pole as expected, maybe it's the strain.
We also have grapes, which turned all black last year, I will monitor them this time around, we arrived in the middle of summer and it was too late already.
Plumbs looking also very good, yesterday I tasted plumb ketchup for the first time, and it gave me an idea, I might try to make some of my own.
Apple trees are looking so cute, the area next to the grapes and the apple trees, is so green and shire-looking, sometimes I just like to walk around and play some music from Lord Of The Rings, and one in particular:
We have one sick tree, I am not exactly sure what's the problem, I should maybe cut the affected branches to make sure it doesn't spread.
More Cherries and more Figs, and more trees
As you can see, this part of the land is very overgrown, and we will take care of it soon. I like keep it bushy (🤣) because it's making a natural barrier from the road, and against the deer and wild boars. I also like walk naked sometimes 😊
I dunno what it is
Cherries?
There are more strawberries to come
And that's my potatoes as for today, 3 rows of it, I will dig a trench and add some soil today or tomorrow.
Alright, let's go cook lunch! Have a delightful morning!
Bye!!
