Healthy and Unhealthy Juicing

https://images.pexels.com/photos/1437629/pexels-photo-1437629.jpeg?auto=compress&cs=tinysrgb&dpr=1&w=500
I once had someone admonish me for juice fasting. They were concerned that my blood sugar would spike. It's a legitimate concern. However, in my case, there was no need to worry. There's not a lot of sugar content in my juice fast juices. You see, I know there's a right and a wrong way to juice. I follow a few simple rules when juicing for optimum nutritional value and low sugar content. Here they are. # Percentages When I juice fast, or even when I just make smoothies, I watch the percentage of sugary fruits that go into the juicer. Using too much fruit or a lot of citrus is a common mistake that can turn a healthy juice into a sugar coma. The juices I make are primarily composed of vegetables, not fruit. You can make a juice with as little as 10% fruit that's quite nicely flavored. By using 90% veggies and only 10% fruit, I get a great tasting juice that won't cause my blood sugar levels to rocket off the charts.

[credit](https://images.pexels.com/photos/1437629/pexels-photo-1437629.jpeg?auto=compress&cs=tinysrgb&dpr=1&w=500/) # Nutritional values When you grow up vegetarian, then turn vegan as I did, you learn nutritional facts in self defense. It's sad but true that vegans and vegetarians have to defend their eating habits quite often. I don't mind, because I know my stuff. It comes naturally to me after 40 plus years of a lifestyle that isn't within the realm of societal norms. Even if you're not vegan, the best way to be sure the juice you make is to know your produce and what it does for you. Or, you can take the short cut. # Color cues What color are your fruits and veggies? Are you juicing the whole rainbow or just one color? By including many different colors of fruits and veggies in your juice, what do you also include? You include many different vitamins, minerals, nutrients and antioxidants. Each color represents something else you need in order to be healthy. So, a healthy juice contains multiple colors. Could it be any simpler? # Bright, pastel, dark or light. While it's true that highly concentrated colors contain high concentrations of nutrients, there is something else you should know. There are light colored fruits and veggies that contain nutrition boosters not found in the dark and bright colored produce usually recommended for good nutrition. So, be sure your rainbow is not only multicolored, but multi-hued. # Nuts, beans and nutritional yeast Since I'm vegan, everyone seems to be concerned about me getting my protein and Vitamin B12. That is, everyone but me. I have this covered. In addition to adding a wide variety of produce to my juices and smoothies, I also toss some nuts, seeds, beans and a tiny bit of nutritional yeast (B12) into each batch. You can't taste the beans or the nutritional yeast. Different nuts and flax or chia seeds add a nice, compatible flavor to the juice. Plus, I get my protein and Vitamin B12 effortlessly. **Note:** You can skip the nuts if you're allergic. There's still plenty of protein in the beans and seeds. ***

Health Compounders: Mind [Apr.30.2020]🅰️📘

https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmXv9QWiAYiLCSr3sKxVzUJVrgin3ZZWM2CExEo3fd5GUS/sep3.png
It’s time to get back to the discussion of the health compounders. Previously I wrote about the Spirit or Emotional Intelligence Quotient. (EQ) I also mentioned the Body or Physical Intelligence Quotient (PQ) briefly. Being a personal trainer this is an area of focus so I couldn’t help skipping forward a little. Of the 4 health compounders (besides sleep) there are 2 more: What I call Special Focus and Mind or Mental Intelligence Quotient. (IQ) Because Special Focus requires fully understanding the other 3 health compounders we will be covering that last. So what is Mind? How do you take care of your mind? What if I don’t consider myself very smart? What then? And why even bother with these health compounders anyways? I believe that every success in the physical world transpires in the invisible. Change is much like the metamorphosis of the caterpillar to butterfly. It’s what’s invisible to the eye... The unconscious is where healthy change first takes place. This is the blueprint indelibly marked. From ones spirit that impulse travels to the brain in the form of thought solidifying in the form of specific beliefs and mental habit. It’s the programs we run that are running front of mind but more than naught in the background. Mindfulness is the practice of being ones self into the present. Ground ones self with the heat and now. I believe that mindfulness is the key. Awareness is the second step. Next the mind transfers the spirits drive to the action potential of the body and that is where physical results are realized. You see... it’s all a kinetic chain. If you want physical aesthetic lasting results you have got to take your Spiritual and Mental health seriously. So let’s begin our talk about ways/activities that you can do to sharpen the mind! Not only will it built resiliency I think that concentrating on mental health and acuity is of vital importance especially as this current pandemic runs its course. Follow along and we will go deeper on the subject of Mind Health. By the time your done reading about each of the health compounders you will be able to do a full lifestyle assessment on yourself. Not only that... this is also useful as a frame work to understanding how people tick, why they do what they do, and how to motivate yourself to actually physically manifest the change you want. The guava is a native bush of Central America. It is found in the wild throughout tropical America as well as in subtropical areas of the American continent. This plant has spread to all tropical and subtropical areas of the world due to its ability to adapt to different soil and climate conditions, i.e. different soil and climate conditions. This crop spreads easily and bears fruit relatively quickly. Worldwide, the guava-producing countries are Pakistan, Egypt, Mexico, Bangladesh, the United States, Brazil, Colombia, Malaysia, Thailand, Peru, India, South Africa, Indonesia and the Dominican Republic. Egypt is the largest exporter of fresh guava. In the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, guava is produced in the states of Monagas, Vargas, Aragua, Carabobo, Capital District and Zulia. Zulia is one of the states with the highest production at the national level. In our country the guava has a history of ancestral cultivation since our indigenous people collected the guava for daily consumption, it was used as an important ingredient in food or it was used in the elaboration of drinks. The guava belongs to the Myrtaceae family. Its leaves are opposite, simple, elliptical to oval, from 5 to 15 centimeters long. The flowers are white, with five petals and a large number of stamens. It can be in a flowering state throughout the year. It will reach 5 to 6 meters high on average when the evergreen and leafy bush reaches its highest development. It can be productive for at least 10 years.

The fruit of the guava tree is an ovoid berry that measures approximately 4 to 12 centimeters long and 4 to 7 centimeters wide. It weighs between 30 and 225 grams. It is an aromatic fruit, with a sweet-sour taste, soft and sticky pulp. The color of the pulp is variable. It can be white, yellowish white, pink, yellow, orange or salmon. The taste of the fully ripe fruit is sweet to slightly acidic and somewhat aromatic, varying from strong and penetrating to moderate and pleasant. In the center of the guava is a mass of pulpy material where the seeds are deposited. According to this source the seeds are abundant, stony, triangular, reniform, compressed, white, light yellow or yellowish brown, approximately 3 to 5 mm long. The guava can be consumed both fresh and processed in the form of pulps, juices, jams and preserves. I particularly prepare guava jam at home. I like guava juice very thick. When I taste the fresh guava I prefer the one with the pink pulp.

Immune System Effect

The daily consumption of this fruit activates the immune function in the human being because it is an excellent antioxidant. It strengthens the nervous system and the digestive system. Its consumption also helps to treat colds and sore throats. It is an ally to prevent premature aging.

Anticancer Action

It reduces the risk of cancer due to the presence of large amounts of antioxidants and immune activators.

Cardiovascular System Effect

Due to the high content of polyphenols, vitamin C and potassium, guava reduces blood pressure and cholesterol levels in the blood, prevents diabetes, helps maintain balanced glucose levels, slows down the processes of sugar absorption in the body and prevents degenerative diseases.

Digestive System Effect

Because of its tannin and flavonoid content, guava has astringent properties that help overcome diarrhea and improve intestinal conditions such as gastroenteritis. Due to the presence of vitamin C, carotenoids and potassium, the guava strengthens and purifies the digestive system.

Respiratory System Effect

Eating raw guava helps fight off a cold. Raw guava or unripe fruit is useful for relieving coughs, reducing mucus, disinfecting the airways and inhibiting microbial activity.

Skin Effect

Due to the high content of tannins and flavonoids it helps to cleanse, tone and keep the skin firm. It avoids moisture in the skin and therefore avoids oily skin. This fruit for being rich in potassium, vitamins A, B and C provides antioxidants and detoxifiers that keep the skin healthy.

Salute your Health | Clean Hands, Healthy Hands! DIY Care for Friends and Family!

DSC_0024 2.jpg

The Coronavirus is making quite an impact on our world my friends!

*** >With much of the world still living under varying degrees of lockdown we find ourselves wondering what the new normal will look like. As for me, I love the opportunity to DIY foods and household products which are scarce! I grew up with a grandmother who taught me so much; I was like a sponge, soaking up everything she shared. Sewing, cooking, gardening, harvesting and preserving were just a few of the many wonders of her world. ***

*Little did I realize all of this knowledge would become so crucial one day!*

*** >We’ve all heard about how critical it is to wash our hands! Health care providers tell us touching your face with your hands is the easiest way to transmit most flus and viruses. Well, if you’ve tried purchasing hand wash and hand sanitizers good luck! The shelves are bare! Finding some soaps are difficult too! ***

*No worries, you can easily make hand sanitizers and hand wash yourself!*

*** >I’ve been making hand sanitizers for our home as well as friends! I Friends drop off empty bottles and I fill them up! We're still making masks as well! Both will help keep you and your family healthier! Since my youngest daughter and grandson are here, they have plenty of access to both masks, hand soaps and sanitizers but today I’m preparing a care package to send to my oldest daughter @mountainjewel!

Come along, it’s so simple! You can make it yourself!

*** ##### *Bird Song Healthy Hand Spritz!* * 70 % Rubbing Alcohol (2/3 cup) * Organic Aloe Vera (2 tbsp.) * Germ Destroyer (20 drops) * Colloidal Silver or Filtered Water (1 tbsp.) * Organic Essential Oil (10 drops) (Lavender, Lemon, Rose) * Tea Tree Oil (10 drops) ***

DSC_0003 2.jpg

Why use these products?

* 70% Rubbing Alcohol: Medical professionals indicate at least 60% strength will kill most viruses. * Organic Aloe Vera: Oenetrates the skin layers delivering nourishing essential oils and antibacterial treatment deep within the skin layers. Aloe Vera moisturizes the skin to help prevent the drying effects from increased hand washing.

* Tea Tree Oil, Lemon Oil, Germ Destroyer Essential Oils all contain qualities which help boost the immune system. Something we all need!

##### *Bird Song Germ Destroyer* Gel! * Aloe Vera (1/4 cup) * 70% Rubbing Alcohol (1 tbsp.) * Germ Destroyer Essential Oil (20 drops) * Tea Tree Oil (10 drops) * Lemon/Lavender/Rose Essential Oil (10 drops)

All of these ingredients together...

will create a thicker, slightly gel consistency hand sanitizer which I use in smaller pourable bottles, something I could carry with me! Time to pull out those recycled bottles and bottle up!

All bottled and ready to go!

Perhaps a sweet Bird Song Label?

DSC_0030 2.jpg

Packed with care…

and of course with a few sweet treats! A few fun cloth masks which I know my daughter will love!

DSC_0022 2.jpg

*** >Making these hand sanitizers took very little time. I had everything on hand including several recycled bottles ready to fill. Feel free to experiment with your favorite essential oils, have fun with it! I must say; making your own hand sanitizer is much less expensive than buying. You don’t have to be a chemist to make it! Plus just knowing the ingredients are soothing to the skin as well as antibacterial and immunity boosting, it’s a win-win! I hope you’ll try it!
Keep those hands clean! Stay safe and healthy my friends!
*** *And as always, blessings to you all!* ***

Break Fast Challenge - Day 6

https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/syedumair/n3qe9BKQ-IMG_20200428_185020349.jpg
It's the holy month of Ramadhan and many people around the world fast during this month. The month of Ramdhan will last for 29 or 30 days. I thought this will be a great opportunity to make this a contest and ask everyone to share what they ate at the time of "iftaar" - a time of breaking a fast. If you don't fast, you can still participate in the challenge by sharing at least 3 pictures of your breakfast. Easy? Isn't it, just remove the space between "break and fast". Use #breakfast as one of your main tags to get an entry into the contest. It can be anything, a cup of tea/coffee or whatever you eat. Here is what I had today when I broke my fast: #### Sandwich

IMG_20200428_185020349.jpg

Today was all about eating healthy. We prepared sandwiches and used cabbage, carrot, and cucumber as filling. It felt very light but it never causes any trouble.
#### Dates

IMG_20200428_185045604.jpg

And there we go again, dates, dates, and dates. While fasting and when I feel hungry, dates come to my mind first and I think to myself that I will get to eat dates. I just love dates, can't help it.
#### Watermelon

IMG_20200428_184951117.jpg

It is the sixth day and the only fruit I ate these days is watermelon. It's because of the lockdown as we don't get things easily. I will try to buy melon or something else tomorrow.
Again, anyone can participate in the contest whether you are fasting or not.  @peerzadazeeshan has already participated in this contest. ## Download [Brave](https://brave.com/sye093) and start earning BAT. presearch

Sleep better - Tips for teens (and all)

http://ifttt.com/images/no_image_card.png

You've had a hectic day.  Going to classes, running up and down the sport field, trying to concentrate on studying for a test and doing your homework.... You are really tired.  But what are you doing???

You are lying in bed staring at the roof.  You have been trying to sleep for 2 hours and the more you try and sleep the more active your brain gets.

You know you need your sleep for your body to recover and recharge for the next day - you actually did listen to your teacher going on about the benefits of sleep in the Science class, but you just cannot get yourself there.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxxWv6PM4EM

source

O how you wish you still believed in the 'sand man' that would come and throw sand in your eyes that will make you sleepy and take you to dreamland...

There are ways in which you can help your brain to come to rest and let you get the sleep you need. (This will differ from person to person but these are some general guidelines.)

As a teenager, you need at least nine hours of sleep, so before you go to bed, drink something warm.  A milky drink like Horlicks or warm milk is fine, but avoid drinks with caffeine like coffee and tea because the caffeine will have the opposite effect and instead of becoming calmer, it will 'wind you up'.

Have a routine that you follow before you go to sleep.  Something that will make you feel sleepy.  Take a warm bath or read a book.  Rather avoid being on your cell phone or laptop or watching TV, because the light and sound actually wakes up your brain.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxOWpCC00C8

source

You don't want to skip dinner, because you will not be able to fall asleep while listening to your empty stomach begging for food, but also do not eat a huge meal right before bed time.  Your stomach will be too full and busy digesting the food, which can also create pain or noises.

This is not always possible, but try and keep regular times in which you go to bed and when you wake up.  The more your body and brain gets use to the same times, the more your 'internal clock' will work and your brain will know when it is time to sleep and when it is time to wake up.

Being a teenager means that you will most probably have parties over weekends and sleep late the next morning and this will throw your schedule out, but try and not go to bed too late on the Sunday evening, which means you must not sleep too late the Sunday morning.

It is good to exercise because besides from keeping you fit and healthy, it will also help you to sleep at night. Do not exercise right before bed time, because it will make your brain very active.

This may sound like an impossible thing to do, but believe it or not nothing will happen to you if you do it. Switch off all your 'lifelines with society' namely your cellphone, TV, PC and games at least an half an hour before your sleep time, so that you can start relaxing and get ready to sleep.

Leave your cellphone off during the night, you will not miss a lot if you do that, but at least the 'beep beep' of a message will not wake you up every now and then.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTvEsOE_LOE

source

We all have worries and these worries can keep us awake or wake us up during the night.  It is easier said than done, but do try not to concentrate too much on your worries.  There is nothing you can do about it during the night and things usually look better the next morning.

If you do wake up because of things that worries you, write it down and discuss it with your parents or friends the next day.  Just sharing your worries will already make you feel better.

Your bedroom and the way you decorate is also important.  Try and make your bedroom your 'sanctuary' where is is nice and quiet and dark so that you can get your sleep.

Unfortunately all of these things are not always possible to do, or sometimes do not work and like everything else in life, each person is unique.

Find the thing that helps to get you to sleep and be sure to make it your routine every night that you get a good night's rest.

This Fitness Series is my diary, the goal is to share my own journey towards better choices and building new habits. But I do not encourage anyone to recreate my routines and food choices. What works for me may not work for you. This series of blogs is to give hope to people like me. And if you like to watch people working their ass off towards their goal, well this series may entertain you! On this Fitness Series, expect my development with my Home Workout, Zumba video, I will show my Meal preparation, and I will also share some smoothie recipes!
**This is the beginning of my fitness series.**
**Changing my mindset is the first thing that I needed to do!** Being active and healthy have always been in my New Year's Resolution since 2018. But that didn't happen. I always make excuses and move plans to the incoming year. I thought... There will always be a next time to be productive. Then COVID-19 virus exploded like a bomb, I set aside my procrastination and decided to get things done NOW! Not later, not tomorrow, not next year... I only have NOW! What if there's no 2021? When the end of times vibe creeps inside me. It started to feel like I'm running out of time. I don't want to feel any regret because I did nothing to change my unhealthy lifestyle. That's scary! So I motivated myself that March 15 is my NOW or NEVER! Aside from being lazy, my mouth was the most active part of my body. I always want to chew delicious foods, even when I wasn't hungry at all. I don't know what causes this. It feels like this mouth gets bored when not grinding anything from left to right. The results of my unhealthy habits are double chin, acne, bloated stomach, no energy. I also noticed that I became more and more absent-minded every day that it's so close to Alzheimer's Disease! I don't want to find myself on news one day in a situation like... "An old woman kept walking in the streets for a year because she forgot her home address." I prefer to be a cool grandma someday still attending dancing class and living her life to the fullest! >Consistency is the key! In reality, I'm really scared to challenge myself because I knew how half baked person I am. I'm productive now, then halfway I'll suddenly drift away in the ocean of procrastination and become out of focus. But thanks, God! For more than a month, I am consistent with my fitness routine. I workout every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning. I've tried to exercise daily in my first week but my muscles felt sore and too tired. I decided to switch, do my fitness training for at least 3x a week. I love my body, I'll take care of it. Make it better and not punish it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wX4poDR-ysM&t=13s

My routine contains 40mins to 1 hour of workout that focuses on my Arms, Upper back, Waist, and Butt! Followed with 2 hours of cardio. I've chosen to incorporate Fitness Dance or Zumba as my cardio with my workout because I love to dance! I enjoy the feeling of sweat squeezing out my body! The happiness from all that endorphins kicking in my system awakens the sleeping warrior inside me every time I dance. I never felt so strong than before! Now I know that I can walk 12,000 steps and take what my body only needs. **How did I change my diet?** I listed down the healthy foods that I swear love to eat. It was easy for me because my Mom is Ilokana, she taught me to eat vegies since I was a kid. For my diet, I only eat oatmeal, sky flakes, vegetables, fruits, tofu, egg, chicken breast, yogurt, tea, and milk. I learned to say NO to high carbs, oily, anything with sugar and pork. I'm not a vegan, not yet.
**Discipline** I prepare a weekly food plan. I cook all the meals one day a week and re-heat them once it's time for a meal. By doing this, I became in control of what could enter my body. Not tempted from food delivery, because I know I have foods in the fridge, it will be a waste if I will not eat them. For drinks, I like to create fruit smoothies and I learned to add sliced lemons in every water that I'll drink. Lemons are good detoxification and as well as weight loss! **Changing the size of my plate.** It was so cool how effective it is seeing your plate is empty that will send a signal to your brain that you finished your plate, you're done and feel full. **Tools help me: Yoga Mat, Huawei Smart Watch GT 2, & Xiao Mi Smart Body Weight Scale** Yoga Mat and Mi Weighing Scale were around me for a long time. Like I said I've been wishing to this life shift even before. While my Huawei Smart Watch G2 is a gift from the love of my life when I visited him in Thailand. Hi Mahal! You're the best Man on Earth! Thanks for spoiling me with this watch. <3 It's a very helpful present to me. Every workout I did is recorded here. It's really cool how I was able to see my BPM, and the number of calories I'm burning during the routine. This is my favorite watch ever! I'm so happy that I got this.
Reflections everyone should consider when changing to a healthy lifestyle... 1.)Find inspiration. 2.)Know your thyself. 3.)Do it because you love your body. Hating won't help! I hope you find my first blog this Fitness Series helpful. Maybe one of your friends needs inspiration with their own Fitness Journey? Sharing is caring! Send the link of this blog to your friends! Do not forget to follow me here to Hive and in my other social media links below. Have a nice Wednesday night and see you again on my next blog. Bye!

Adding Antioxidants to Your Salad

http://ifttt.com/images/no_image_card.png
Eating salad at least a few times a week is a very healthy lifestyle choice. It is a perfect way to combine many healthy ingredients into one meal. The beauty about salad is that you can put anything in it. You can design your salad to match your nutritional needs. This article lists foods to include in your salad to make it richer in antioxidants. Antioxidants aid in neutralizing free radicals in the body that can cause disease as well as premature aging. If you are a person who is looking to add more antioxidants to your diet, here are some things you can add to your salad to accomplish that goal. ## Spinach In addition to the traditional iceberg or romaine lettuce, add a little bit of spinach leaves. Spinach contains the antioxidants metalthionein and sulphoraphane which can aid in cancer prevention and toxin elimination. https://images.pexels.com/photos/2325843/pexels-photo-2325843.jpeg?auto=compress&cs=tinysrgb&dpr=1&w=500 ## Dried fruit Dried fruit actually contains higher concentrations of antioxidants than fresh fruit. Throw in a few dried blueberries, cranberries, or raisins for some added antioxidant punch. https://images.pexels.com/photos/3474/dried-fruits.jpg?auto=compress&cs=tinysrgb&dpr=1&w=500 ## Nuts Nuts are another good source of antioxidants.
