Welcome to another edition of the Shape of The Cape with your tour guide Julescape. Spring is arriving here on the South Cape coast of Africa and I took some inspiring photos on my latest hike along the cliff tops at the south coast of Africa recently.

The indigenous flora is known as “Fynbos” and is endemic to this particular part of the planet. The climate here is mild all year long and the plant life is quite unique – succulents that are small and hardy, as if in a semi-desert. And now in Spring they are blossoming, which is naturally inspiring to see. I have such a vast and beautiful abundance of nature to explore at my leisure here all year long, with hardly any people around. I presume that this is one of the joys of living in a remote part of the planet – you have the place to yourself.

Well the flora are almost pre-historic in appearance, and may have been here for millennia like this, with little change. And they are very sensitive, so this may be the end of their era, with the planet changing so fast. The climate as well as the environment generally, is shifting, so such delicate flora and also fauna may well retreat to remote regions as society advances upon their habitat. Therefore I like to capture a few photographs for posterity. And the view from here is to the south, with a feeling of eternity of endless distance all the way to Antarctica, as the gull flies. Occasionally I climb all the way down to the sea shore and really make the most of the healthy outdoor environment. I recommend taking some hours every week to get outdoors into nature in order to strengthen the immune system, particularly if you work indoors or are at a screen all day.

There is so much beauty and vitality here in nature. I hope you are able to tap into it wherever you are too. These flowers, for example, are some of the priceless yet free natural gems of the earth, and they lie in abundance all about the cliff tops now, so I feel really abundant and blessed to be surrounded by them. The fragrance is lacking curiously, in these species, but the visual impact is stunning and stimulating. What a great way to balance the busy day indoors. Remember to keep the balance wherever you are, and you will succeed in your mission. I certainly do. (Photos my own)
