Why Our Home Need Plants?

It's my question for myself or maybe for everyone.

I think it's the wrong questions because actually not ~~our home~~ need plants but **Ourselves!** (our body & our health) that need plants.

**Houses and plants, air circulation.** Three things are interrelated. A good house, regardless of its design, needs good air circulation, and it must be supported by the presence of plants in the house or around or our yard. Not all houses have a large yard that can be used for plants. Especially in urban life, where housing must be built to a minimalist design in order to the housing needs of an increasing population. But there are many ways we can do to grow crops without having to own land, various planting methods have been found from hydroponic media, planting in pots, using the roof of the house for planting, etc. Various studies have shown that by having plants, a person's life level is more productive, reduces stress, makes youthful, increases creativity, focuses more on thinking, improves mood, and various other positive things. Plants are also therapeutic, which are able to provide a calming effect on our minds, give a sense of happiness, and this is a positive thing for everyone naturally without having to go to a therapist.

Plants and healthy air circulation because of their ability to produce oxygen, even some ornamental plants are able to kill pollutants in the air which is a crucial problem in modern life, especially in urban areas where pollution is things that must be encountered every day. It has adverse effects in the short and long term on our skin, our hair and most importantly, the air we breathe. Pollution doesn't just stop outside, in our workplaces even at home. Plants in the house are able to keep the air moist, clean it by absorbing toxins in the air or from paints on the walls or furniture in the house. Plants are also able to reduce noise levels. ### What is "Sick Building Syndrome"?

> "When building occupants leave for a certain time, symptoms usually lessen, only to recur after re-entry into the building." The quote above is the opinion of a **NASA scientist** in the study of clean air, ***Dr. Bill Wolverton*** in 1989. The above quote also describes the notion of **"Sick Building Syndrome"**, *which is a condition in which a person who lives or works in a building experiences sudden disturbances or symptoms such as allergies to the skin, irritation of the eyes, nose, throat problems, headaches, dizziness, fatigue, nasal congestion, nervous system disorders and sinuses*. Long-term air pollution can cause serious illnesses such as lung cancer and pneumonia, asthma, respiratory infections, and prolonged allergies. The cause, of course, and none other than indoor air pollution which is the toxic emission of fungi in the air, synthetic building materials, pollutants. Most office buildings or apartments are built with airtight designs in order to save energy but are poor in air circulation, resulting in pollutants such as benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene, and toluene. The goods in our homes are also not far from dangerous materials like that. Cat finding, goods made of rubber, vinyl, laminates, goods made of plastic, computer components, over time also releases harmful substances that are dangerous if we breathe. ### You Will Feel Peace When You Back To Nature

Peaceful, calm and pleasant when our feet step on the grass, viewing at the blues sky, looking at the green leaves and touch them, everything seems to be connected to our subconscious and for a second the problem is forgotten, the feeling of fatigue is reduced, the feeling of depression is reduced and there is also a relaxing effect in our body. ***Do you also feel it when you walk in the garden or see the shady trees?*** The effect of good air as a whole will have a good impact on our body and mental health. **Citing study published in the journal ACS Environmental Science & Technology** said, *green plants are 8 times more effective at reducing air pollutants*. So you should think about planting ornamental plants in our homes or home yards, such as Sansevieria plants, Bird's Nest Ferns, Anthurium Flowers, Paris lilies, Betel Gading, Bamboo Palm, etc. To be part of our room, provide a sense of comfort and safety from harmful substances in the air.

Berbagai penelitian membuktikan dengan mempunyai tanaman, tingkat kehidupan seseorang lebih produktif, mengurangi stress, membuat awet muda, kreatifitas meningkat, lebih fokus dalam berfikir, meningkatkan suasana hati, dan berbagai hal positif lainnya. Tanaman juga bersifat therapeutic yaitu mampu memberikan efek tenang bagi fikiran kita, memberikan rasa bahagia, dan ini adalah hal positif bagi setiap orang secara alami tanpa harus pergi ke therapist. Tanaman dan sirkulasi udara yang sehat karena kemampuannya untuk memproduksi oksigen, bahkan beberapa tanaman hias mampu membunuh zat-zat polutan diudara yang menjadi masalah krusial di kehidupan modern ini, terlebih di area perkotaan dimana polusi adalah hal-hal yang harus ditemui setiap hari. Itu memberikan efek buruk dalam jangka pendek maupun panjang pada kulit kita, rambut kita dan yang terpenting, udara yang kita hirup. Polusi tidak hanya berhenti di luar, di tempat kerja kita bahkan ketika dirumah. Tanaman dalam rumah mampu menjaga kelembapan udara, membersihkannya dengan menyerap racun-racun di udara maupun dari cat-cat pada dinding ataupun furniture dalam rumah. Tanaman juga mampu mengurangi tingkat kebisingan. ### Apa Itu Sick Building Syndrome? > "Ketika penghuni gedung pergi untuk waktu tertentu, gejala biasanya berkurang, hanya untuk berulang setelah masuk kembali ke dalam gedung." Kutipan diatas adalah pendapat salah seorang Ilmuwan NASA dalam study tentang udara bersih, Dr. Bill Wolverton tahun 1989. Kutipan diatas juga gambaran dari pengertian tentang "Sick Building Syndrome" yaitu keadaan dimana seseorang yang tinggal atau bekerja dalam gedung mengalami gangguan atau gejala mendadak seperti alergi pada kulit, iritasi pada mata, hidung, gangguan tenggorokan, sakit kepala, pusing, kelelahan, hidung tersumbat, gangguan sistem syaraf dan sinus. Polusi udara secara jangka panjang mampu menyebabkan berbagai penyakit serius seperti kanker paru-paru dan pneumonia, Asma, infeksi saluran pernapasan, dan alergi berkepanjangan.

Penyebabnya tentu saja dan tak lain tak bukan adalah polusi udara dalam ruangan yang merupakan emisi beracun dari jamur diudara, bahan bangunan sintetis, zat polutan. Kebanyakan gedung-gedung perkantoran atau apartment dibangun dengan desain ruangan kedap udara dengan tujuan menghemat energi tetapi buruk dalam hal sirkulasi udara, sehingga zat-zat polutan seperti benzena, formaldehida, trikloroetilen, xilena, dan toluena. Barang-barang dirumah kita juga tak jauh dari bahan-bahan berbahaya seperti itu. Cat finding, barang-barang yang terbuat dari karet, vinil, laminasi, barang-barang dari plastik, komponen komputer seiring berjalannya waktu juga melepaskan zat-zat berbahaya yang berbahaya jika kita hirup. ### Kamu Akan Merasa Damai Ketika Kembali Ke Alam

Damai, tenang dan menyenangkan ketika kaki kita menginjak rerumputan, memandang hijau daun dan menyentuhnya, semua seakan tersambung kedalam alam bawah sadar kita dan sedetik masalah terlupakan, hilang rasa lelah, berkurangnya perasaan tertekan dan juga ada efek relaksasi dalam tubuh Kita. Apakah kalian juga merasakannya, ketika berjalan ditaman atau melihat pohon-pohon rindang? Efek udara yang baik secara keseluruhan akan berdampak baik pada kesehatan tubuh dan mental kita. Mengutip sebuah penelitian yang diterbitkan dalam jurnal ACS Environmental Science & Technology menyebutkan, tanaman hijau delapan kali lebih efektif untuk mengurangi polutan udara. Maka sudah seharusnya berfikir untuk menanam tanaman hias dalam rumah kita atau halaman rumah, seperti tanaman hias sansevieria, Pakis Sarang Burung, Bunga Anthurium, Lily Paris, Sirih Gading, Palem Bambu, dll.
