###
Summer seems to be over.
The long evenings are over, the schools have started again and it is getting a bit cooler outside. Well except that we will have a great week weather wise next week, is a present in September! Yess, It is already September, time goes way to fast and it means as we dutch say : The 'R' is again in the month. ###
septembeR, octobeR, novembeR and decembeR
And that means that we quickly build up a vitamin D deficiency, which is very important. While the Netherlands is not really a sun-drenched country anyway, we also spend most of our time indoors. And if we do go outside, we apply a lot of protective sunscreen. Well we try all to stay safe. Unfortunately, this ensures that we hardly absorb any vitamin D from the sun's rays, while the sun is the main source of this nutrient. Many Dutch people therefore suffer from a shortage of vitamin D, while this substance is crucial for your health. Eventhough that I walk the dogs, I am also a lot of in the office working, while the bit of sun there is, is missed. I do feel the benefits, i am more enengetic. Thats why i take it in with the food I prepare. Fatty enriched fish and eggs are foods relatively rich in vitamin D, but you have to eat quite a bit of them to make up for the lack of sunlight. Supplementing with a good vitamin D supplement is therefore advisable (especially in autumn and winter). Now that the 'R' is back in the month and the weather is getting drier, my advice is to supplement this. When we supplement vitamin D, it is always important to take in sufficient magnesium, because this is the co-factor of vitamin D. Without magnesium, vitamin D is not properly absorbed. Did you know that it can help you in your work and on Hive aswell? Vitamin D contributes to your problem-solving capacity and protects you against cognitive decline. What better excuse do you need. There is some evidence that this important nutrient can reduce the risk of mental illness such as Parkinson's disease. But that is just what i read online I don’t have the proof. The effects on your mood are also very interesting. Vitamin D stimulates the healthy production of the happiness hormone serotonin, ( we can never have enough of that , i can promise you, the world woiuld be a better place if we had more. It significantly reduces the risk of depression. It is therefore not surprising that you feel a bit more depressed in the winter - you get less vitamin D from the sun! So why not add it to your ford and daily take in from all you eat and drink. Vitamin D is also good for strong bones. So don’t wait to the weather changes, I promise it will work. Let me know in the comments if you do use vitamine D and what benefits you feel.
