Everyone knows cycling is healthy. But especially during this Covid-19 crisis it is good to ride your bike more often. Here are the reasons why.

(Picture from BlenderTimer/Pixabay) # Social distancing By riding your bicycle you automatically keep distance from other people. The bike automatically creates a form of social distancing. German Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) recently promoted the use of bicycles to reduce the chance on a Covid-19 infection : Everyone should consider, in the sense of "social distancing", whether they could walk or ride a saddle instead of using public transport. In this way, the risk of infection can be reduced. (source: spiegel.de) # Avoiding infected surfaces Cycling not only keeps you at a distance from others, but also reduces the risk of getting infected by touching surfaces. A recent study showed that the Covid-19 virus can survive between 5 and 9 days on surfaces (source:https://www.scientias.nl/hoe-lang-kan-het-coronavirus-overleven/). This makes traveling by public transport a lot more risky than taking your own bike.

Cycling more frequently also leads to lower blood pressure. This doesn’t lower the chance of an infection, but will have a positive effect on the impact of the virus (source: spiegel.de)
