Hemp has been used as a mortar on bridge structures in France. With many people wanting sustainable eco-friendly lifestyles there are ecovillages, communal living, co-ops, everyday people that have either accomplished, starting or looking at ways their homes can be incorporated into their way of lifestyle, hemp is starting to be recognized as one of those products. Like any other house build, some options affect your budget, hemp is no different, let's take a look at the pros and cons of building a house out of hemp. PRO: Fire resistant Mold resistant Pest resistant Antibacterial Can grow your self Bio-degradable Eco-friendly If done right can last a long time. CON: Depending on your country laws may be illegal Council licensing and planning Unfamiliar building material – with builders, homeowners Specialized builders Trail and error hemp, lime consistency. May need to import If growing your self, need processing equipment, hire or buy Will still need wood or steel structural beams if using hempcrete Hemp homes can be built out of different hemp materials like Hemp plastic used in building hemp 3d printing homes particle board which can be used inside like gib boarding can be used for kitchens also.
