//Supporting Healthy Living//
Life in lockdown has caused many people to turn to other forms of exercise out of the gym and it’s been an essential part of keeping fit. Aside from a well-rounded exercise regime, a balanced diet is needed too. As the moths of winter approach, I’ve made it an effort to supplement my training with certain supplements. Dwindling daylight hours sometimes means that some people won’t get enough time outside, supporting one’s diet with a boost of vitamin D will make a positive impact to energy levels. Energy is important to performance and there are a number of other supplements that support this area of development.//Energizing and Adapting//
L-carnitine is an ammonium compound, the L form is organic in animals. When exercising, many people train to maximise their energy output and draw from their fat stores. L-carnitine is an essential compound that guides long-chain fatty acids to the process of energy conversion. Generally, the body does not produce enough of L-carnitine and build-up of toxicity post energy production can lead to hampered energy production over time. For those looking to train hard, L-carnitine is essential and will promote cleaner energy production. Luckily, over the counter supplements can support this deficiency but it’s important to note the difference between the main types of supplements available on the market today.//Different Types//
When looking at supplements, there is a distinction between Acetyl L-carnitine and L-carnitine Taratrate. The former is responsible for general cognitive function in the brain as it is attached to an acetyl group, allowing permeability to the brain. The Tartrate variant is responsible for guiding the body in using fat stores as an energy source. Promoting fat adaptation is an important part to athletic performance, increasing metabolism and improving overall cardio activity as lactic thresholds are reduced. Both variants bring benefits that are important in our daily lives, whether it be physically associated or cognitive based.//Great Supplement//
Brain health is especially important as aging progresses and certain age related disease set in. There’s generally very little in the way of serious side effects but usual side effects can include vomiting, stomach pains, severe headaches and more. Including L-Carnitine in one’s daily diet offers significant benefit with little risk. I feel that taken in moderation, it can support a healthy lifestyle and other variants can also offer great mental improvements. I wouldn’t say it’s a smart drug but it supports what the body naturally produces, replenishing it in healthy amounts.
