Mantras are incredibly powerful tools

We here mantras and immediately thoughts of Yogis sitting in the lotus position with prayer beads come to mind, repeating the same thing over and over for hours on end. The truth though is that mantras are part of every theory of development! Why? Because you’re reprogramming and reinforcing thought patterns. This can be applied throughout the day to avoid distractions and unwanted emotional triggers....here’s an example: I was driving the other day, made a U-turn and a guy yelled out his window “Asshole!” For seemingly no reason. Naturally, the rage system engaged. I wanted to turn around and zip up to him, thoughts of fists flying, of watching him as a 6’4” ripped dude gets out of the car. Then I just breathed and said “change your mindset change your life”. That is one of my mantras that I got from someone long ago. I stole his mantra! And now, I try to repeat it, throughout the day. Not only does it help me focus and achieve a meditative state, but it also neutralizes events like the one I just described. As soon as I said the mantra I relaxed and moved on and actually had a little laugh at the whole ordeal. This type of event could easily keep someone mentally occupied for minutes or even hours, exhausting vital and essential mental energy that could be spent achieving something of use to the world. Mantras are simple. Write down something that helps aim you in the direction of a goal. Examples would be: ”I am healthy” ”I am wealthy” ”I am powerful” ”I am successful” ”I am attracting great people into my life” ”I am becoming who I want to be” or in my case... ”change your mindset, change your life” I hope this helps anyone out there looking to cultivate focus and positive energy in these rough times.

UNDERSTANDING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SOCIALIZATION AND OUR MENTAL HEALTH

https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/menoski/1hk9cV51-helena-lopes-e3OUQGT9bWU-unsplash.jpg
I'm an introvert, I'm born that way. Nothing will change that. Oh, I hate crowded places, I hate parties, why do they have to invite me for a guys out, Oh, why are they ruining my alone time. These are what a lot people do say, and I for one I'm a bit in this category of people. I don't like answering calls, I'm like why are you disturbing me. Well, these are characteristics traits of introverts. But one thing that we should all know, nobody was born to be introvert, yeah, you could be calm by default but that doesn't mean you can't mingle with people. I for one try as much to mingle with my close relations a lot which is quite healthy but upon my latest research, I guess I will have to broaden my association a bit. When you start reading convincing theories on how people who lack social skills are more prone to die early, have diseases and so on, I guess you will have to change your lifestyle for the better. I for one don't want to die anytime soon and I know you also don't want to die soon. This article is meant for everyone, be you an extrovert or introvert it will be helpful if you all read through this article. For introverts, this article will be a warning sign for you to socialize more, while for extroverts you can give your introverted friends so they can change their ways, hence, this article is a must read(smiles). ___

___ ### We Are Social Creatures By Default We are all social creatures, it's in our DNA to be social. Why do I say so? Why are we born into a family? To socialize with one another. So why are you now, isolating yourself from the world? We are born into a society, that we integrate with, in other to feel among. We crave to be part of a society, that's why kids are at their happiest when they play together. Imagine throwing a birthday party for a kid and nobody comes, will the kid be happy, hell no. The idea of a birthday party is for socialization, to bring loved ones together and create a blissful experience. Ask yourself how our primate ancestors survived during their time. They had to socialize in other to create way that could help them in times of adversity. They communicated on how to create weapons, how to attack their preys, how to protect their family, etc. No one person can survive on their own. We need people in our lives to survive. ___

___ ### How Can Socializing Ensure Good Mental Health There are so many ways in which socializing can help ensure good mental health. It's actually obvious if we sit and look at the isolated people in our lives. They may be richer than you but you don't see any spark of happiness or joy around them. Can you imagine isolating yourself for 2 weeks, no calls, no interaction, just you with your laptop or game and how it would feel, just do it right now. It feels awful right, while to some other people, it's best feeling? That's just life. The funny thing is that those of us that socialize don't even know the health benefits we get just by talking to that person or group of people, don't worry yourself, I will let you in. ___ + **Socializing Is Like A Vaccine:** According to a Psychologist, [Susan Pinker](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_Pinker), who said that face-to-face socialization is like a vaccine for stress and anxiety. But how is this possible? Whenever we have a face-to-face conservation our nervous system secretes neurotransmitters tasked with acting like a vaccine to stress and anxiety. We usually feel more relaxed when we speak about our troubles with someone, even though, they don't solve it, but we feel some kind of relieve. And that's why we normally see people drinking at bar, and talking, trying to release some stress off their body, and sometimes, after such episodes, some of these people come out with the actual solution to their problems. A [study](https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/318093.php) carried out by MNT, suggest that a touch from a romantic partner goes a super long way in reducing stress. And that's why in movies you see a stressed man resting his head on the laps of his romantic partner. Well, According to Psychologist [Susan Pinker](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_Pinker), > *Face-to-face contact releases a whole cascade of neurotransmitters and, like a vaccine, they protect you now, in the present, and well into the future, so simply […] shaking hands, giving somebody a high-five is enough to release oxytocin, which increases your level of trust, and it lowers your cortisol levels, so it lowers your stress. ___ + **Improves Our Brain:** Yeah, it should be obvious that socialization helps to improve our brain. You don't want to be the dull one in the group, do you? When I was still in University, I normally take some tutorial classes carried out by my very own classmate, and I wonder why he is so good and so eager to learn. I didn't know there could be a scientific evidence to prove why classmates that teach other classmates are good and more eager to learn. Well, according to [Prof. Matthew Lieberman](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Lieberman), > *If you learn in order to teach someone else, then you learn better than if you learn in order to take a test. [Source](https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321019#Social-motivation-and-brain-power).* People often do better when they notice that people are motivating them to do better. That's why in Football/Soccer, when a team plays a home game, they play better because their fans are behind them, cheering them up. Same with academics, a child who has a supportive parents will often do better than a kid who is neglected by his/her parents. Hence, socializing helps our brain without us knowing it. Prof. Matthew Lieberman also said; > *When you’re socially motivated to learn, the social brain can do the learning and it can do it better than the analytical network that you typically activate when you try to memorize. ___ + **Improves Longevity:** Socially active people tends to live longer than isolated people. They get the required amount of love that sustain life. As an aged person, if you are always bored, life becomes meaningless. When the soul and body starts accepting that life is meaningless, it won't be long before the person dies. Whereas a socially active aged person, who is in company of his age mates, cracking jokes that only they know, will wake up every morning with happiness and willingness to live on. If you notice those small communities where they all live as one, when one person is in trouble, the entire community supports such person. You always see many great grand parents in such communities. According to a study carried out by Dr. Archelle Georgiou, in a small island in Greece called Ikaria, he noticed how the old people over there are strong and happy. He noticed almost everyone there gets old. Whenever he comes across any family, he sees their great grand parents. He was shocked and amazed. How is this possible? he pondered. He started noticing that these old people are constantly surrounded with their children or grandchildren, or neighbours. They are constantly talking or listening to people talk, sing or crack jokes. There's a communal bond. Everyone took care of each other. They all supported themselves financially and emotionally. Well, according to the two authors' of the book [Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life](https://www.amazon.com/Ikigai-Japanese-Secret-Long-Happy/dp/B074WCX5X4/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=ikigai&linkCode=sl2&linkId=dc87cc4b39b2a4357040c15d17d0492e&qid=1588293083&s=books&sr=1-1), Hector Garcia and Albert Liebermann, > *It is customary in Okinawa to form close bonds within local communities. A moai is an informal group of people with common interests who look out for one another. For many, serving the community becomes part of their ikigai [life purpose]. ___ + **Reduce Chances Of Developing Dementia:** First thing first, what's Dementia? Dementia can be said to be a memory disorder that are mostly developed by the elderly. You might have seen it in real life or movies, where elderly people, normally forget things, such as, who they are, their children, in other words, their reality. I presume most of you reading this article, are following Money Heist, if not, try it out, it's a good seasonal movie. The mother of the Inspector, Raquel Murillo, is a good example of someone suffering from Dementia. This memory disorder mostly leads to death and everyone around the world can reduce their chances of developing this unfriendly disorder by socializing more often. According to a [study](https://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2019-08/ucl-sa6073119.php) carried out by PLOS Medicine, which says that the elderly have a 12% less chance of developing dementia by socializing more often. For example, a grand dad who sees either his family members or friends daily have a 12% less chance of getting dementia than a grand dad, who sees either his family members or friends monthly. It's therefore necessary to try and keep some good family ties, so as to help you when you get old. And if you have an elderly person that you think isn't having much social activities, be there for such person, you might just be saving a life. Well according to Dr Andrew Sommerlad, who is a University College London Psychiatry, who said; > *Here we've found that social contact, in middle age and late life, appears to lower the risk of dementia. This finding could feed into strategies to reduce everyone's risk of developing dementia, adding yet another reason to promote connected communities and find ways to reduce isolation and loneliness. [Source](https://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2019-08/ucl-sa6073119.php)* Also according to Professor Gill Livingston who is also Psychiatry at the University College London, said; > *People who are socially engaged are exercising cognitive skills such as memory and language, which may help them to develop cognitive reserve - while it may not stop their brains from changing, cognitive reserve could help people cope better with the effects of age and delay any symptoms of dementia. ___ ### Conclusion Yeah, I just read this awesome article, I and my friends will go jump from a cliff, or I and my friends will smoke weed all day, or I and my friends will like to hike to an unknown place. I'm not telling you to forget who you are and what you like to do, I'm only telling you to loosen up a bit and socialize with people more often. My number one rule in life is moderation, moderate the way and manner you socialize. Anything done in excess or deficit isn't healthy. Kindly write out one thing you can do in excess or deficit that is healthy in the comments below, good luck finding anyone(smiles). All I'm saying is that improve your social skills and enjoy the benefits it gives you. There will be continuation for this topic, because I have some more information that I still want to share but the length of the article is already discouraging for some people to read, smiles. So keep your eyes on the look out for the Part 2. Well, amid this unprecedented Covid-19, now isn't the best time to be super social. Maintain the rules, 6 feet distance and put on your face masks if necessary. You can video call family members and friends to check up on them. The world is a social place, that's why inventions keep coming, to help improve socialization. We have snapchat, whatsapp and many more social media apps that can help us socialize in difficult times like this. Hence, SOCIALIZE. So Till Next Time, Stay Safe. ___ ### References > [Ref 1](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_Pinker) | [Ref 2](https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/318093.php) | [Ref 3](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Lieberman) | [Ref 4](https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-social-cure/) | [Ref 5](https://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2019-08/ucl-sa6073119.php) | [Ref 6](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.slashgear.com/socializing-in-middle-age-may-have-profound-effect-on-dementia-risk-03586159/amp/) | [Ref 7](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/483964) | [Ref 8](https://www.mindbody7.com/news/2017/12/28/want-better-mental-health-socialize) | [Ref 9](https://www.mentalhelp.net/articles/socialization) | [Ref 10](https://courses.lumenlearning.com/boundless-sociology/chapter/the-role-of-socialization/) | [Ref 11](https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/12/well/live/having-friends-is-good-for-you.html) ___

**I HAD AN AMAZING DAY TODAY** **WHAT ABOUT YOU**? Love to share how I started my day and hoping **YOU** will be inspired. On top of the building floor where I currently stayed, there laundry rooms for each unit. There are 3 buildings in this compound. Each building has 100 units or apartment. Here is the look of the builiding

**This is building 1**

**This is building 2**

**and this is building 3* About 2.5 hectare of land in this compound. And each building there is a laundry cubicle for each unit. Right now, I can walk around in the compoud as long as I do it early when everyone are sleeping. **This is the laundry area looks like below image,

This is where I do my rounds next to laundry cages. **THE BUILDING IS NOT STABLE** Yes I am telling you, 3 earthquakes that shakes Mindanao last year and 1 this year in January that cheap building foundation cost me a lot trouble by keep flying here from Singapore until I got lockdwn. This is why I make things as comfortable as possible for me. **MOVING FORWARD** Exercising in the morning seems I can do more than doing it in the afternoon. There rooms to do more. More eager to do a lot of things. Well, after the 2 hour exercise, Time to head back to floor 4 where my unit is situated. After that cold shower, I am ready for breakfast.

**eggs and more fruits to regain back some energy. This 9k plus steps I showed here is just the walk. Not part here is the push ups, the body toning as well. At lunch, I had a leftover chicken with rice and some vegetables. In the late afternoon, I had this wonder shake that I like to share too: **AVOCADO MILK SHAKE** **BENEFITS OF HAVING AVOCADO** There are so Many benefits of having avocado. The potassium in avocado is so much better than in Banana. Loads of Anti oxidants as we know oxidants are good for us. Here are the super simple ingredients: **1 or 2 ripe avocado** ** slice of ginger** - Try it if you have not done so. You'll be surprise of the intense taste and spiciness. **fresh milk** maybe a glass or so depending how many members of the family will be into it. **Muscovado sugar** - this is similar to coco sugar. Healthy and Unhealthy Juicing

https://images.pexels.com/photos/1437629/pexels-photo-1437629.jpeg?auto=compress&cs=tinysrgb&dpr=1&w=500
I once had someone admonish me for juice fasting. They were concerned that my blood sugar would spike. It's a legitimate concern. However, in my case, there was no need to worry. There's not a lot of sugar content in my juice fast juices. You see, I know there's a right and a wrong way to juice. I follow a few simple rules when juicing for optimum nutritional value and low sugar content. Here they are. # Percentages When I juice fast, or even when I just make smoothies, I watch the percentage of sugary fruits that go into the juicer. Using too much fruit or a lot of citrus is a common mistake that can turn a healthy juice into a sugar coma. The juices I make are primarily composed of vegetables, not fruit. You can make a juice with as little as 10% fruit that's quite nicely flavored. By using 90% veggies and only 10% fruit, I get a great tasting juice that won't cause my blood sugar levels to rocket off the charts.

[credit](https://images.pexels.com/photos/1437629/pexels-photo-1437629.jpeg?auto=compress&cs=tinysrgb&dpr=1&w=500/) # Nutritional values When you grow up vegetarian, then turn vegan as I did, you learn nutritional facts in self defense. It's sad but true that vegans and vegetarians have to defend their eating habits quite often. I don't mind, because I know my stuff. It comes naturally to me after 40 plus years of a lifestyle that isn't within the realm of societal norms. Even if you're not vegan, the best way to be sure the juice you make is to know your produce and what it does for you. Or, you can take the short cut. # Color cues What color are your fruits and veggies? Are you juicing the whole rainbow or just one color? By including many different colors of fruits and veggies in your juice, what do you also include? You include many different vitamins, minerals, nutrients and antioxidants. Each color represents something else you need in order to be healthy. So, a healthy juice contains multiple colors. Could it be any simpler? # Bright, pastel, dark or light. While it's true that highly concentrated colors contain high concentrations of nutrients, there is something else you should know. There are light colored fruits and veggies that contain nutrition boosters not found in the dark and bright colored produce usually recommended for good nutrition. So, be sure your rainbow is not only multicolored, but multi-hued. # Nuts, beans and nutritional yeast Since I'm vegan, everyone seems to be concerned about me getting my protein and Vitamin B12. That is, everyone but me. I have this covered. In addition to adding a wide variety of produce to my juices and smoothies, I also toss some nuts, seeds, beans and a tiny bit of nutritional yeast (B12) into each batch. You can't taste the beans or the nutritional yeast. Different nuts and flax or chia seeds add a nice, compatible flavor to the juice. Plus, I get my protein and Vitamin B12 effortlessly. **Note:** You can skip the nuts if you're allergic. There's still plenty of protein in the beans and seeds. ***

Health Compounders: Mind [Apr.30.2020]🅰️📘

https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmXv9QWiAYiLCSr3sKxVzUJVrgin3ZZWM2CExEo3fd5GUS/sep3.png
It’s time to get back to the discussion of the health compounders. Previously I wrote about the Spirit or Emotional Intelligence Quotient. (EQ) I also mentioned the Body or Physical Intelligence Quotient (PQ) briefly. Being a personal trainer this is an area of focus so I couldn’t help skipping forward a little. Of the 4 health compounders (besides sleep) there are 2 more: What I call Special Focus and Mind or Mental Intelligence Quotient. (IQ) Because Special Focus requires fully understanding the other 3 health compounders we will be covering that last. So what is Mind? How do you take care of your mind? What if I don’t consider myself very smart? What then? And why even bother with these health compounders anyways? I believe that every success in the physical world transpires in the invisible. Change is much like the metamorphosis of the caterpillar to butterfly. It’s what’s invisible to the eye... The unconscious is where healthy change first takes place. This is the blueprint indelibly marked. From ones spirit that impulse travels to the brain in the form of thought solidifying in the form of specific beliefs and mental habit. It’s the programs we run that are running front of mind but more than naught in the background. Mindfulness is the practice of being ones self into the present. Ground ones self with the heat and now. I believe that mindfulness is the key. Awareness is the second step. Next the mind transfers the spirits drive to the action potential of the body and that is where physical results are realized. You see... it’s all a kinetic chain. If you want physical aesthetic lasting results you have got to take your Spiritual and Mental health seriously. So let’s begin our talk about ways/activities that you can do to sharpen the mind! Not only will it built resiliency I think that concentrating on mental health and acuity is of vital importance especially as this current pandemic runs its course. Follow along and we will go deeper on the subject of Mind Health. By the time your done reading about each of the health compounders you will be able to do a full lifestyle assessment on yourself. Not only that... this is also useful as a frame work to understanding how people tick, why they do what they do, and how to motivate yourself to actually physically manifest the change you want. The guava is a native bush of Central America. It is found in the wild throughout tropical America as well as in subtropical areas of the American continent. This plant has spread to all tropical and subtropical areas of the world due to its ability to adapt to different soil and climate conditions, i.e. different soil and climate conditions. This crop spreads easily and bears fruit relatively quickly. Worldwide, the guava-producing countries are Pakistan, Egypt, Mexico, Bangladesh, the United States, Brazil, Colombia, Malaysia, Thailand, Peru, India, South Africa, Indonesia and the Dominican Republic. Egypt is the largest exporter of fresh guava. In the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, guava is produced in the states of Monagas, Vargas, Aragua, Carabobo, Capital District and Zulia. Zulia is one of the states with the highest production at the national level. In our country the guava has a history of ancestral cultivation since our indigenous people collected the guava for daily consumption, it was used as an important ingredient in food or it was used in the elaboration of drinks. The guava belongs to the Myrtaceae family. Its leaves are opposite, simple, elliptical to oval, from 5 to 15 centimeters long. The flowers are white, with five petals and a large number of stamens. It can be in a flowering state throughout the year. It will reach 5 to 6 meters high on average when the evergreen and leafy bush reaches its highest development. It can be productive for at least 10 years.

The fruit of the guava tree is an ovoid berry that measures approximately 4 to 12 centimeters long and 4 to 7 centimeters wide. It weighs between 30 and 225 grams. It is an aromatic fruit, with a sweet-sour taste, soft and sticky pulp. The color of the pulp is variable. It can be white, yellowish white, pink, yellow, orange or salmon. The taste of the fully ripe fruit is sweet to slightly acidic and somewhat aromatic, varying from strong and penetrating to moderate and pleasant. In the center of the guava is a mass of pulpy material where the seeds are deposited. According to this source the seeds are abundant, stony, triangular, reniform, compressed, white, light yellow or yellowish brown, approximately 3 to 5 mm long. The guava can be consumed both fresh and processed in the form of pulps, juices, jams and preserves. I particularly prepare guava jam at home. I like guava juice very thick. When I taste the fresh guava I prefer the one with the pink pulp.
