Why We Curate

Curation is a HUGE part of the HIVE ecosystem. Curators spend hours engaging with posts, both upvoting and commenting, and submitting posts to Curangel and other curation projects that aim to support user retention and to bring rewards to excellent content.

Our curation posts have always been about four things:

  • Recognising and acknowledging the excellent writing and efforts of people writing under the #naturalmedicine tag
  • Providing an interesting, valuable read for Hivers. We have never liked 'cut and paste' style curation, and pride ourselves on more 'editorial' style content that brings value to the platform.
  • Bringing abundance to content creators with beneficiaries, chosen by our curators
  • Rewarding our curators through beneficiaries
  • Earning money for the account to pay for challenges and upvotes.

What We Pay Our Curators

It has been a collective decision to ensure all curators set themselves at 60 percent beneficiary to reward them for their hard work.

All curators have the freedom to choose one content creator a 5 percent beneficiary. This is on all posts, unless it's a newsletter or non-curation post, unless at the discretion of the post writer.

So sometimes, if you see no beneficiary, or less beneficiary, this is entirely up to the individual curator and not a directive from a single leader. Note many of our posts over the years, such as newsletters, entirely declined post beneficiaries in order to accumulate more HIVE to allocate to challenges and increase the upvote value of the account.

They can also choose - and often do - to forego rewards and distribute them how they see fit. Some may choose to simply volunteer and give their rewards to beneficiaries, others may choose to leave the beneficiary entirely for the community. Unlike many larger 'whale' accounts', our VP comes from community effort rather than one individual, especially as we move forward in a more decentralised way.

This year, we've also given out bonuses that came from the sales of LOTUS and the LOTUS miners. We felt it was important to support all members of the team in this way for the tremendous amount of work they do in retaining users through curation and the work they do to bring value and support to content creators.

A little Note about the 'Lotus Recommends' Project

This was devised a little differently, aiming to reward additional curators for finding undervalued content, particularly by newbies or excellent content that may be missed otherwise. Run by @pavanjr and @holisticmom, who compile the posts and recieve 40 percent beneficiary, each curator selection allows for a 5 percent beneficiary to that curator. For example, should @gentleshaid select two posts that are included in the curation, they will receive 10 percent, and so on. The compiler decides which nominations are valid for inclusion, and sets beneficiaries. For example:

We have been incredibly lucky to be well supported through curation trails and autovotes by Hivers who love what we do and the intention behind our project, as well as the enormous amount of effort we have all put in over the last few years. Thanks so much - rest assured your funds have been used appropriately!

Whilst we are powering down at the moment to reimburse community leaders for the investments they have put into the community, and to assist with working towards a restructured Natural Medicine that is less centralised, we still adhere to the goal of our curation posts - to reward content creators, curation efforts, and community abundance (more on that in future posts).

Please be patient with our team as we work across different time zones and life circumstances - we are all doing the best we can to support and build this beautiful tribe in the way we have for the last three years, and are passionate about it's place within the HIVE ecosystem.

If you would like to chat more about this or other matters, please DM any of our curators - they are all leaders in the Natural Medicine collective. Please note the beneficiaries of this post go straight to @lotusshares, which is used to upvote content under the #naturalmedicine tag.
