This will come as little surprise to many, we seem to hear the same story year after year. But once again the CDC have warned that this years Flu Vaccine does not match the strain of the most common virus circulating.
"It's not a very good match for B/Victoria," said Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
ABC News reports:
Health officials say influenza A has been the dominant flu strain for 27 years in the United States. Influenza B viruses have not been the predominant virus since 1992-93 ... until this year's flu season.
The CDC's weekly U.S. influenza surveillance report indicates B/Victoria strains have been reported more frequently this season than influenza A, even though the B strain of the virus typically circulates near the end of the flu season in the spring.
While they blame the failure this year on the unlikely and less typical strain being the dominant one, we see this same failure every year - more often than not the vaccine is less than 50% effective as we can see from the CDC's own data:

Aside from its poor effectiveness there are other factors to consider when deciding whether to have your annual flu shot.
Krystle Cordingley will never see her son again who died at 13 months old just hours after his flu vaccine was administered.
Linda Schorel didn't think twice before taking her annual flu shot, however now its something she wished maybe she did take that second thought on. Though she did win compensation over the damage done to her from the vaccine, her health will never recover:
Amina Abudu was a happy, healthy little girl in 2009, when health authorities declared that a pandemic flu virus was sweeping the world.
A vaccine was rushed to market, and the five year old was among millions of Canadians to get the shot, amid widespread fears about the new pathogen.
Five days later, Amina’s older brother found her lying unconscious in the bathroom of the family’s east-end Toronto home. She was dead.
Her devastated parents came to blame the flu shot itself and sued the vaccine’s manufacturer, Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK), for $4.2 million. The little-noticed trial of that lawsuit drew toward a close on Tuesday, a rare judicial airing in Canada of a vaccine’s alleged side effects.
The closing statement of this case was:
“Given the level of limited clinical data that was available at the time, technically Canadians were participating … in a clinical trial, with an experimental drug,”
Flu Vaccine and Pregnancy
While the CDC and just about all health authorities around the World recommend flu vaccines in any trimester of your pregnancy, there is good reason to ignore this advice and refuse the vaccination.
Firstly we should make you aware that there has never been a study to identify the safety and efficacy of the Flu Vaccine in pregnant women. However there has been a study to see if there is an association between miscarriages and the flu vaccine - the results have scientists concerned. Though as you'd expect no change to policy as yet been made.
The Independent Reports:
Scientists at Marshfield compared 485 pregnant women, ages 18 to 44, who had a miscarriage to 485 pregnant women of similar ages who had normal deliveries during the flu seasons of 2010-2011 and 2011-2012. Of the women who miscarried, 17 had received flu vaccine in the 28 days before the miscarriage, and had also been immunised the prior flu season. Most miscarriages occurred in the first trimester, but several occurred during the second trimester. The median age of the fetus at time of miscarriage was 7 weeks.
By comparison, of the women who had normal deliveries, four who had received the flu vaccine in the preceding 28 days had also been vaccinated during the previous flu season.
Another piece of information that is extremely concerning is the increase in miscarriages reported to the VAERS system, a 4250% increase to be precise!
Documentation received from the National Coalition of Organized Women (NCOW) states that between 2009 and 2010 the mercury-laden combined flu vaccinations have increased Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting Systems (VAERS) fetal death reports by 4,250 percent in pregnant women. Eileen Dannemann, NCOW’s director, made abundantly clear that despite these figures being known to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the multiple-strain, inactivated flu vaccine containing mercury (Thimerosal) has once again been recommended to pregnant women as a safe vaccination this season.
Outraged by the CDC’s total disregard for human life, Ms. Dannemann accused the CDC of ‘willful misconduct,’ saying that they are responsible for causing the deaths of thousands of unborn babies. She stated that the CDC deliberately misled the nation’s obstetricians and gynecologists and colluded with the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology (AJOG) to mislead the public by advertising the flu vaccine as a safe vaccine for pregnant women when they knew fully well that it was causing a massive spike in fetal deaths.
