It is a chronic inflammatory condition of the eyelid margin. Blepharitis is one of the most common conditions affecting patients seen by ophthalmic practitioners. Though generally not sight-threatening, blepharitis can incite permanent eyelid margin ulcerations and visual loss as a result of superficial keratopathy, corneal neovascularization or ulceration can happen. [source](https://www.waypham.com/habit-of-daily-eyelid-hygiene-will-support-healthy-vision/) Blepharitis can be grouped into two based on the duration and also based on the location of the disease. Based on duration we have acute blepharitis and chronic blepharitis and based on location we have anterior blepharitis and posterior blepharitis. Anterior blepharitis is an inflammation affecting the eye eyelid margin whilst posterior blepharitis involves the meibomian gland posterior to the lash margin. [source](https://hylo.de/en/causes/inflammation-of-the-eye/eyelid-margin-inflammation-blepharitis/) Diagnoses are made using imaging devices such as ocular surface interferometer or based on findings from slit-lamp examination. Symptoms such as superficial discomfort, epiphora, conjunctival hyperemia which results in visual symptoms such as light sensitivity and blurred vision. Some signs and symptoms associated with blepharitis include crust or flakes on eyelashes, eyelids stuck together on awakening and reddening of the eyelids. Infectious blepharitis may show greatest response to treatment with topical antibiotic ointment after lid hygiene. Some common antibiotics prescribed include erythromycin, bacitracin and others. The secondary causes of blepharitis requires that the underlying condition is treated, an example is seborrheic blepharitis where the underlying dermatological condition must be treated. What is @bettervision about? @bettervision is is a project initiated by @nattybongo and friends to give back to the society the knowledge and skill acquired through the Optometric Studies in Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana. It is an outreach system where we visit the less privileged communities to offer free eye screening services and education to the people within the community AIMS AND OBJECTIVES To reduce or prevent vision loss through diseases such as glaucoma, cataract and refractive errors. To enlighten the majority of the Ghanaian population about the importance of proper visual care. To conscientize people on the need for regular eye checks To get more people to have their wards screened within the Critical periods of a Child’s Vision Development; thus from ages 3 to till about 10 years. To help the blind and people with low vision live a better life within the society through education of the general public to stop stigmatization. To help in the fight of extreme poverty that puts the health of people at risk Our greatest gratitude goes to @fundition @adollaraday @surfyogi @girlsfoundation @bleepcoin @ackza @indigoocean @nanzo-scoop @steemstem @demotruk @pennsif @steem-ambassador @kasho and @wafrica for helping to make the aims and objectives of @bettervision a reality.
