One of the positives of having Steem down while preparing for a Hurricane is the fact that the start of a new month gives me some time to reflect on some of the progression of a couple of my goals this year. This Summer has been tough to remain consistent with my fitness and health goals as work and stress have really made it tough for me to commit and remain disciplined in some areas. My diet continues to be the toughest as weekends like this have made it impossible to remain attached to a diet given the downtime and anxiety. Despite remaining busy with workouts I have bot been able to make progress with the doet and weight!
Being able to workout at least 30 minutes everyday has really helped at least avoid my situation getting worst. I have been able to achieve this by adding some sports into the mix as I have been playing some pick up football and soccer at least once a week for the past month. My only concern is that the soreness is a bit worst the next day despite my body having been conditioned for a workout every day. I think that is more due to the intensity of some of the sports involved. However, I have started to become more conscious of my age as I am also feeling more prone to injury as I play. I have gotten a couple of bad bruises which I had never experienced before. The change and addition in activities has also helped me realize that I am still in pretty good shape despite my weight. I am playing with people much younger than me which seem to be out of breath quicker than me so that is a good sign. Despite having to carry more weight around, I think my conditioning has been good overall which should help once my weight gets back in line with the conditioning. This will be very important these next couple of weeks as I prepare for my annual 5K race I do for charity. My pace in running has not been very good because of my weight but I think I still have time to improve on that and hit my goal of completing the race in under 30 minutes. I would really like to beat last year’s time but right bow I am just focus on the 30 minute mark. I am looking into some 30 day training programs for 5Ks that should help in the short term. I know I also have the incentive of @actifit which will motivate me to accumulate more activity along the way!
I had some sub 10k days this past month as travel and work made it impossible to get them all in as usual. However, my focus really continues to be in doing something every day in order to maintain the routine as I am definitely a creature of habit. @actifit has allowed me to be accountable for it which is great as I continue to accrue tokens and rewards for remaining healthy which is a great example of goals aligning well for oneself. This past week also marked another great step in the goal this year as I finally visited a CrossFit facility near me that I think I will be trying soon. They seem to have a great community and are flexible during the week which is exactly what I have been looking for given my scheduling challenges. I am waiting for things to settle down at work to jump into it for a week or two to see if it motivates me further. Mixing up the training is something I think my body has needed to combat my inconsistency with my diet. Hopefully, this next month will provide a great pivot for the rest of the year to end at a high note; achieving my goals!
