Can Cherries Help Your Headache?

The summer usually brings the warmest months of the year. The sun seems to shine more and the sky does not seem as gloomy as it does in the winter. However, when the heat and humidity get too high, it can become very uncomfortable. Along with the physical discomfort of the heat and humidity, I also notice that my mood changes. I start feeling a lot more depressed on days that have the highest humidity. A few other people I've spoken to about this have agreed that their mood seems to go down as well. So I've been trying to figure out why this happens. https://www.foodiesfeed.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/fresh-cherries-in-a-wooden-bowl-1.jpg source One thought is that the high heat and humidity can cause fatigue. I notice people saying that they do not have motivation to do things they normally do on the days that are hot and humid. Energy levels seem to be lower on these days. So maybe the lack of energy and fatigue can contribute to the feelings of depression. Another thought is that some people tend to stay indoors more when it is too hot out. They prefer to be in the air conditioning, instead of doing outdoor activities. So staying inside when they prefer to be out could be another cause. While staying indoors on a humid day, some people like to keep the curtains and blinds shut to keep the sun from coming in and warming up the room even more. This creates a darker atmosphere with less sunshine coming in. The sun has a positive affect on our mood, so the lack of natural light coming into the room may also cause a depressed mood. The poor air quality when it is humid may be another factor. Humidity can cause health problems and one of them may just be depression. Contaminates in the air multiply faster when it is humid. This may affect a person's mood as well. There are a few things I do to help lessen the severity of the depression during the humid days. I drink plenty of fluids and keep myself hydrated. I try to drink smoothies, iced herbal teas and plenty of water. By drinking these healthy drinks, it gives me a bit of a boost in my mood. Another thing I do, since I spend more time indoors, is watch comedies. Movies and shows that make me laugh and smile help to get my mind off of the depression. Trying to get enough Omega-3 in my diet also seems to help me. I purchase foods with high Omega-3 content and at times, I do feel it takes the edge off of my depression. If you feel you suffer from depression or a low mood during the summer months, the heat and humidity may be the reason why. Try to stay cool and hydrated as much as you possibly can.
