It is also a good idea to buy local, in season foods as well. This could be from your local farmer's market, or just be knowing which foods grow best during which seasons. Now lets get to today's superfood...

Today's superfood is Cinnamon. Cinnamon has a sweet warmth that has been used and enjoyed for centuries. It has been used to help with upset stomachs and give a feeling or supporting overall health and wellness. The reason for this is because cinnamon feeds your immune system with antioxidant fuel for the fight against infection and disease. Cinnamon has one of the highest levels of any spice; even more than many foods. You will get as many antioxidants from 1 teaspoon of cinnamon as from 1/2 cup of blueberries. A mere 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon daily can improve insulin sensitivity, which in turn can help lower diabetes and heart disease risk. Cinnamon may also relieve bloating and gas and reduce heartburn discomfort.

Cinnamon is available in ground form, stick form, and even as scrolls of dried bark. Ground cinnamon has stronger flavor than sticks and can stay fresh for 6 months, while scrolls last longer. Both should be stored in a cool, dark, dry place. Try adding cinnamon to sweet and savory dishes. It is often paired with apples and added to sweet baked goods. Cinnamon brings out sweetness and flavor from many different styles of cooking and baking. The possibilities are endless when it comes to cinnamon. You can add it to your coffee, tea, cereal, ice cream, smoothies, cereal, ice cream, pudding, yogurt...you get the idea. So what are you waiting for? Go out there and get your hands on some cinnamon. It is good for your health and tastes great. I hope you enjoyed and learned something new today. Thanks for reading and I will see you again soon.
