##### Asthma is such a painful illness for mothers to have to watch their kids endure. Respiratory function is so crucial to a happy, healthy child. But what if as a mother you could change the outcome? What if your own health had an impact on the respiratory health of your child. Reuters reports that in fact very obese mothers put their children at a higher risk of asthma. A study shows that prenatal obesity puts kids at a higher risk than children of mothers at a normal weight during pregnancy. According to Reuters: "The study, which covered over 129,000 mothers in Stockholm and their 189,000 children, found that mothers who were very obese, or with a body mass index of 35 and over, had a 61 percent increased risk of their children developing asthma by the time they were between 8 and 10 years of age." Asthma is an inflammation in the airways which makes breathing difficult. And it has a huge impact on kids considering that asthma-related emergency room visits make up 34.6 percent of all child emergency room visits. It accounts for more hospitalizations and causes more school absences than any other chronic illness. If it even partially could be avoided, that’s reason enough for moms to consider the impact that their obesity will have on their child. #####
