If done right
*without genetic modification and toxic chemical fertilizers, large scale hemp farming has the potential to replace so many of the environmentally destructive industries that today seem necessary for modern life.*
Industrial Meat Producers
Factory farms are horrific. The suffering and environmental degradation that they cause is so profound that most people, if they actually saw it with their own eyes, wouldn’t be able to continue to support the practice. For this reason, in the United States, you will be charged with domestic terrorism if you film and release footage of the reality of this horrible industry. Hemp is one of, if not the only, plant based protein that has ALL of the 20 amino acids. It is a complete protein and can replace animal protein in your diet. The nutritional value of hemp is immense. I’m not a vegan but I feel very strongly that ethical meat production is essential for a moral, healthy society. https://www.green-flower.com/articles/269/15-mind-blowing-benefits-of-hemp-protein
Deforestation And Industrial Logging
I’m from the Northwestern US and come from a logging family in a logging community. I’ve seen firsthand the destruction of ancient forest habitats. The homogeneous replanted forests are populated with trees that are genetically modified and prone to disease and insect kills. This in turn makes them susceptible to huge and devastating forest fires like the ones we’ve been seeing. These replanted mountainsides are saturated with herbicides to suppress the growth of the maple, alder and other competing species in the replanted regions. This herbicide runs off into streams and rivers killing salmon and other fish necessary for a healthy forest habitat. Hemp fiber can replace trees in the building and paper products industries, and lead to a massive reduction in the logging necessary to maintain current markets. Like with meat, I am not suggesting an end to all logging. I’m just saying hemp as a building material (and paper production fiber) can be a better, more sustainable option as we look for solutions to the environmental damage clearly being caused by the current systems. http://bringingithomemovie.com/hemp-houses
