>My wife has been farting more than the normal farts that she did before she conceives. We are expectant parents, according to the app that she is using she is now on her 6th week. We will know the exact information by Thursday as we already secured a schedule for our OB.

Now back to business. As I mentioned earlier, my wife has been farting more now and I need to understand why it is such so I did small research: # Farting in General: According to an article that I [read](https://www.webmd.com/heartburn-gerd/gas-causes-treatments#1). People gas either through our mouths through burp or in our anus about 20 times a day. Oh boy! I think I am exceeding on that especially when I eat my favorite food and drink some carbonated drinks. All of us are farting and it is normal but if it is excessive like daily you might want to be checked by a specialist to know what is happening. # Farting for Pregnant women: From what I read in the articles, farting can be a sign of pregnancy. As per the article How to Ease Uncomfortable Pregnancy Gas it can be the earliest sign of the pregnancy. Based on a personal experience before we got the results from her pregnancy test kit she always farts and it became a hobby of her. I also do that so I have no complaints or whatsoever on that scenario. Due to an increase and changes in the hormones of a pregnant woman farting and bloating usually occurs and it is perfectly normal. It might be embarrassing as you cannot control your muscles anymore once it is in there but that is okay! We usually joke about this scenario now and I believe that your partner if you are also expecting to be a father, should support your wife emotionally and physically in this case. # What Are the possible causes? Aside from the hormones, one of the contributors is the food that they intake. Right now, we shifted to eating more fruits versus the favorite crackers that we usually chimp in on our breaks. Also, the manner of how we eat food. According to what I read, eating quickly can make us gassy. Even in normal times, we are often advised to slow down on eating. It is hard for us as we always time our lunchtime at work and consume around 10 to 15 mins eating and chit-chatting. Moving around is also a contributor, as changes in the body take place most of the time pregnant women are always in their bed lying. Not moving, can decrease the metabolism hence it causes gas too! # Is there a way to stop it? Yes, there are multiple things that you can do to lessen it but stopping the farting is not possible. As long as it is not hindering anything nor no issues with health I'd suggest that take it lightly. I know that they are really powerful and annoying at times but they are symptoms that the pregnancy's doing well. We just need to stop breathing for a while or breathe through your mouth and wait for a few seconds as it will pass. According to one of my favorite quotes: ***This too shall pass.***
