With the qualities this tea has, it is used for many purposes, drinking as a normal tea, hot or cold, baking, cooking, and a range of healthcare products are also made from rooibos. Main Benenfits of Bokkeveld Rooibos More antioxidant than other teas. Cancer fighting properties. Low amounts of Tannins. Naturally caffeine free. No negative side effects. I will do a follow up post with a breakdown of the benefits in details

*Farmers in the field* Bokkeveld Rooibos has become a huge part of the local economy and employs over 2000 of the local residence on the farm and factory, thereby contributing to the local economy of the region and its communities. Bokkeveld rooibos strives to idea of sharing our heritage and giving back in whatever way possible to encourage and enhance the lives of all South Africans. The rooibos plant is endemic to a small part of the western coast of the Western and Northern Cape province of South Africa. It grows in a symbiotic relationship with local microorganisms and past attempts to grow it outside this area, in places as far afield as the United States, Australia and China, have all failed. Scientists speculate that climate change may threaten the future survival of the plant and the R600-million rooibos industry. Some claim that increasing temperatures and decreasing rainfall may result in the extinction of the plant within the next century.

THE REGION WHERE BOKKEVELD ROOIBOS IS GROWN: The Calvinia Agricultural Cooperation established a tea facility at their branch in Niewoudtville in 1983. The tea facility is now self-sustainable and plays a role in the improvement of the local economy.

*Solar power panels.* The Calvinia Agricultural Cooperation established a tea facility at their branch in Niewoudtville in 1983. When the Karakul and Livestock Co-operative took over, the tea court was privately owned. At the request of Niewoudtville's rooibos producers and their producers’ committee chaired by Mr. Dirk van der Merwe, the Northern Cape Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development became involved in the development of the Nieuwoudtville Rooibos tea processing plant. Since December 2009 to date, the development speedily advanced under the leadership of Mr. Gert Steenkamp, acting manager of the factory and Deputy Director of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development in the Northern Cape. Approximately fifty percent of our tea produce is exported to Germany, Japan, France, Canada, the USA, The European Union, Japan and the Netherlands while the rest is sold at local markets. The tea facility is now self-sustainable which will certainly lend a hand to the improvement of the local economy.

ABOUT BOKKEVELD ROOIBOS TEA The short cut is mainly used for teabags and the medium and long cut tea is generally sold as loose tea. Our environment's flavor profile differs somewhat to the rooibos teas grown in the Western Cape because of the high altitude of the Bokkeveld plateau. Our climate also contributes to the tea’s aromatic profile when compared to rooibos grown in other regions. The company has established itself as a key player in the global market for rooibos tea suppliers and is now ready to supply the domestic market with high quality tea, previously available to only overseas markets in the past. Nieuwoudtville Rooibos assures you of a quality product, without any additives with exception to the flavoured tea range. The product is available from rooibos producers in the area and from the rooibos tea processing company located on the Bokkeveld plateau. There are different cut lengths available namely short, medium and long cut.

THE NAME ROOIBOS: Rooibos (ROY-boss; Afrikaans: Aspalathus linearis), meaning "red bush"; is a broom-like member of the Fabaceae family of plants growing in South Africa's fynbos.

The leaves are used to make a herbal tea that is called by the names: rooibos, bush tea (especially in Southern Africa), or redbush tea (predominantly in Great Britain). The tea has been popular in Southern Africa for generations, but is now consumed in many countries worldwide. It is sometimes spelled rooibosch in accordance with the old Dutch. The tea has a taste and color somewhat similar to hibiscus tea, or an earthy flavor like yerba mate. The generic name comes from the Greek name aspalathos for Calicotome villosa, which has very similar growth and flowers to the rooibos plant. The specific name of linearis comes from the plant's linear growing structure and needle-like leaves. Visit Our Website for more information http://www.bokkeveldrooibos.co.za
