Top 5 Houseplants for Clean Air

https://www.steemimg.com/images/2016/09/28/philodendron7ff35.jpg

We love sharing sustainable options for health and wellness! Keeping plants indoors is one of the easiest ways to improve life, so we have made a list of the top 5 best indoor house plants for improved air quality.

This is a super, easy, and cheap way to improve quality of life. Air is one of the most important factors in good health. If you want proof of that, consider how long you can go without breathing air vs. how long you can go without food or water. This is such an import issue, and plants are such an easy solution, that NASA studied Indoor Houseplants for Indoor Air Pollution Abatement

Plants are natural air filters. They absorb some of the particulates from the air and at the same time take in carbon dioxide, which is then processed into oxygen through photosynthesis and released into the environment. Further, soil is full of microbes that cleanse the air as well. So not only are these plants neutralizing toxic air, but they are also producing oxygen rich healthy air!

The plants in this article are so good at creating high quality air that they can even alchemize toxins from the air such as formaldehyde, benzene and trichloroethylene!

Beyond air quality, plants just make people feel better. Being around nature has a soothing and comforting effect on people. Lowered blood pressure and stress levels are valuable benefits of keeping potted plants in indoor space.

These plants need little to no maintenance and do well even with under or over watering. They only need water when they feel dry. Over watering is sometimes as common a problem as under watering. The easiest solution for protection from over watering is to use a pot with holes in the bottom.  If the pot has holes in it, you can put a saucer under the pot and keep water in the saucer. This reduces the regularity of needing to water as the plants can absorb the water from the saucer/tray as they need it without the roots being flooded/rotted.

Here's a sustainable BONUS tip: you can pour the cooled water from cooking spaghetti or potatoes into your houseplants (or any other "throw away" water - as long as it doesn't have excess chemicals in it).

These plants don't need particularly rich soil, but if you'd like to give em a boost while being super sustainable you can sprinkle your coffee grounds in the pots after you are done with your coffee!

Below are top 5 indoor plants that are easy to care for and are best at improving air quality:

1. Philodendron
The sweet philodendron has heart-shaped leaves on vines. They need moderate water and some sunlight. They cleanse the air and are especially good at absorbing formaldehyde!

2. Aloe Aloe absorbs air pollutants. When the pollutant load in the air becomes too high, aloe will develop brown spots. This is an AWESOME bonus as it is an easy way to monitor the quality of your air and if the spots do develop it gives you warning. You can then either get more plants or change locations so as to live in a place that is not so toxic!

But wait, there's more!

Aloe is super medicinal; the gel can be used to soothe burns, cuts, and other skin ailments. The flesh is also healing to the digestive tract when added to a juice or smoothie. Pick a bright window for aloe, because it enjoys sunny spots. We eat and use aloe daily not only as an eatable super food but as a high quality skin healing remedy for countless reasons.

3. Peace Lily

Peace lilies like shade and cooler climates. They tolerate under watering better than over watering. If they outgrow their containers, re-pot them. Peace lilies are fantastic air filter and very low maintenance!

Its nice to have a combination of shade and more sun plants as there are only so many spots in a house with sun. The peace lily does exceptionally well in shade and makes it an ideal choice for houses as they can be kept in areas with little light.

4. Rubber Plant
The rubber plant is relatively easy to grow, as it can thrive even in low light or cool environments. It prefers indirect light. Too much water will cause the leaves to yellow and fall off. Rubber plant reduce toxins and pollutants from the air while also creating rich clean oxygen!

5. Bamboo Palm
The bamboo palm prefers shade or indirect light. They don't require much effort for care. They need water only when the soil feels dry. It is an excellent air purifier, particularly of benzene and trichloroethylene.

Imagine doing the same thing you do now, but with a plant in proximity the air is exponentially healthier! Air quality is one of the most important aspects of life, so we hope this encourages you to bring some plants indoors!

http://ifttt.com/images/no_image_card.png
Those who want to lose their weight, tell them that the soup proves very effective in loosening the weight. Experts believe that cabbage soup helps in loosing weight. One benefit of this is that it does not allow your body to be week due to dieting. Rather, the whole mineral gives vitamin and nutrition values. Most dieticians do include soup in their health charts. Because it reduces calories instead of your body fat. Due to this, you do not feel weekness and your body is also in shape. ## Ingredients
*1 head of cauliflower; *3 tablespoons of olive oil; *salt to taste; * 1 red onion; * 2 cloves of garlic; * 950 ml of vegetable or chicken broth; * 2 tablespoons butter; * 1 tablespoon of lemon juice; * ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg; * green onions or parsley - for serving.
## Cooking
Cut the cabbage into small pieces. Put them on a baking sheet covered with parchment and mix with 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Arrange the inflorescences in one layer and salt. Place the pan in an oven preheated to 220 ° C for 25–35 minutes. The cabbage should become soft and brown on the edges. Turn the inflorescences in the middle of the preparation. In a saucepan, heat the remaining olive oil over medium heat. Put onion cubes and add salt. Stir fry for a few minutes. Add finely chopped garlic and cook for another 30 seconds. Pour in the broth. Leave some of the most beautiful slices of cabbage for serving, and put the rest in a saucepan. Increase the heat slightly and bring the broth to a boil. Then reduce and cook for 20 minutes with a small boil, stirring occasionally. Mash the prepared soup with a blender, adding butter, lemon juice and nutmeg. Salt the dish to taste. Before serving, decorate each serving of soup with a slice of cabbage and chopped herbs.

##### CHRISTMAS IS COMING! And with Thanksgiving, and the snow falling, and the sun shining, and all the real life stuff we've been busy with, it's been hard to find time to MAKE and CREATE and BUILD! **But there's never been a better time for it** - personally, I've been thinking CHRISTMAS presents as I prepare for this challenge. What 'natural medicine' related gift can I make for my loved ones? And I'm *excited* about making soap, and a still, and.. and ... and.... AND so many people have BEGGED to extend the due date! #### And so the team at Build-It and the team at Natural Medicine thought, what the heck, let's extend this due date until DECEMBER 21ST which is solstice! Each week we'll reward entrants with some tokens for their efforts, but we won't be making the final decision til just before Christmas. # Who are Build-IT? Build-it are about empowering and strengthening DIY projects, how to tutorials and life hacks. They were set up to reward high quality DIY and 'how to' projects and you can earn 'build' tokens by using recommended tags such as #diy, #build-it, #how-to, #doityourself and #build. They even have a condensor - https://build-it.io/. Natural Medicine often sees these tags alongside #naturalmedicine because many of our folk are equally into self sufficiency and resourcefulness, making their own rather than buying from a store. We've run challenges like this before where we've seen all kinds of 'make your own' projects such as making your own deodorant or clothes washing powder, and of course lots of yummy healthy food recipes!!

divider bw.fw.png

# The Entries So Far We're going to include two posts that came in via a comment just as we posted this challenge. One's an awesome vegan recipe and the other is a bamboo bike build! Congratulations @justinparke and @stortebeker - you both recieve a few LOTUS and BUILD tokens for your efforts. Only two official entries so far (that is, they followed all the rules!) [Double Purpose Herbal and Beautification](https://www.naturalmedicine.io/naturalmedicine/@olivia08/double-purpose-herbal-and-beautification) by @olivia808, about growing a garden and making a herbal moringa linament [A Garden Bed for the Kids](https://steemit.com/naturalmedicine/@porters/finally-a-garden-for-the-kids) by @porters Both of you will be rewarded with some BUILD and LOTUS tokens. # The Challenge (In Case You Missed It) ### This challenge is a *little* different because we're going to ask you to 'make' your own project from scratch - something you have *never* made before but always wanted to. We want you to document it as a step by step 'how to' in an **engaging** and **creative** a way as possible. Try to choose something challenging! We love Build-It's tag line: DO IT NOW! This could be a great opportunity to start that project you've been putting off for ages! `You must 'build' or 'make' something that relates to 'natural health' - this, of course, is very broad! And remember, Christmas is COMING! Some ideas:` - Make your own bath salts to gift to a friend - Build your own altar for meditative rituals - Build an outdoor fire bath for self-care - Make your own deodorant - Make your own apple cider vinegar or try pickling for the first time - Set up a self watering system for your permaculture garden - Make your own still for essential oils - Make a hydrosol out of your favourite herb and package for gifting - Try making your own vitamin pills, tea or herbal cookies - Make your own soap - Make your own colloidal silver - Make your own vegan cheese

Reducing My Coffee Footprint

No, I did NOT see that coming either...! ---

Lemon & Ginger - Herbal Infusion

--- As you may know, I'm a *die-hard* coffee drinker and like most, will tell you, I love it, can't get enough of the stuff... but sometimes, my taste-buds disagree, ever so slightly, and I know it's time to cut back on the caffeine for a while. Lately, I've found myself wondering about the **health benefits** of drinking coffee daily... but knowing that I probably drink 5x the RDI, you could say, I've been looking for a healthier substitute. Anyhoo, the world works in mysterious ways... and this morning, instead of grabbing a normal tea-bag at breakfast, I actually grabbed a *herbal* tea-bag by mistake and made myself a 'Lemon & Ginger' herbal tea. Oh well, I decided to ***'drink it anyway'*** and was surprised to find that I actually liked it. In fact, I liked it so much that it's been given a very rightful place on my list of 'healthy' substitutes.
https://i.imgur.com/u7Do3Kd.png Thanks for stopping by and reading my post, I really do appreciate your time. ### And remember to keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you're thinking...!

MY HEALTHY BUSINESS PROJECT

https://img.esteem.ws/r4klbb1hbq.jpg

r4klbb1hbq.jpg

My new idea, my new tries and hopes. I've told you about my new plans with creating a healthy online store. It wasn't just words, and I really try to realize it! So my first steps were spending all free money I had and buying healthy goods. I spent a lot of time searching for good suppliers and the best prices brcause my budget was really limited - only 100$. But I managed to spend them really well I think: I bought 30 kg of seeds: wheat, green buckwheat and rye from Altay - the best Russian region where they are grown.

c5lf8rrdfp.jpg

mu07wc3e52.jpg

+ I bought 8 kg of ecosweets made of 100% natural ingridients.

xf3fsujn2p.jpg

It's my store now.

bpdsgvwsa5.jpg

I don't have free money for ads now😩 So I try just to invite people and make a reblog contests. Here it's, 28 reblogs, not many, but at least...

c04cvxuizl.jpg

For now I sold nothing. SOme people asked prices and that's all:( I am sad because I really thought ecosweets would be popular because all people like sweets + they are healthy - combo! But for now no people are interested in them... Maybe the lack of ads is too bad, and it stops my business, too few people see them. I hope that's the reason... Or another reason - my city is too small and too traditional and conservative to deal with these new healthy trends. My lifestyle is weird for them here, my ideas are crazy. But still there are 3 healthy stores in Kerch already, so there are customers for them! It gives me a hope. I try to save money now to make a couple of ads. Maybe it will help somehow... In summer it would be good just to propose sweets in streets and parks with kids but in winter streets are dead, and I am too shy for it:( Maybe do you have any other ideas of promotion? And what do you think about absence of customers? Too little time passed? I started about 2 weeks ago. Or people really do not need these goods in small cities?

Writing everyday on Steemit has brought me so much, and I never would have thought that it would one day turn into a passion. Words aren’t enough to express how beyond thankful I am for this platform and the amazing people I had the chance to interact on here with. However my mental and physical health are on the verge of collapsing and I can’t keep up no more. The last few months have been extremely hard and I am inches away from falling apart. Luckily I only have 6 days of school left before I can give my mind a rest and start seeking help. In spite of the very healthy lifestyle that I lead, my mind is in a constant state of extreme psychological pain. I will do my best to figure out what is going on inside my brain and put into place the proper measures to be at a stable place, because I can no longer go through life like this. I don’t wish this mental insanity upon my worst enemy. I may look and act normal, and that’s the power of invisible wounds. Deep under the surface I am drowning -300 feet underwater. I will be back. Until then I wish you nothing but health to each and everyone of you. Health is the most precious thing in the world. I’d give anything, absolutely anything to have it. Endless Love πŸ’œ Sab

Cut the chicken into small cubes and add the salt and pepper and add it to the frying pan allowing it to cook for 1-2 minutes until it is sealed on all sides. Then we leave it aside in a clean dish. It is important to avoid cross-contamination of the cooked with the raw.

Add salt and pepper and cook for 5 minutes, over medium-high heat. If you don't know how to sautΓ© so as not to dirty you can stir slowly with a wooden palette. 3.- After this we add the chicken to the frying pan and everything with its cooking juice. You must cook 5 more minutes over high heat while sautΓ©ing or stirring as in the previous step.

eating-4278879_1280.jpg

[Source](https://pixabay.com/es/photos/comer-carne-alimentos-sart%C3%A9n-4278879/) 4.- Now at the end we lower the fire from medium to soft. Add the curry, paprika and cumin. Mix everything and cook for another 6 minutes, stirring or sautΓ©ing frequently. After these 6 minutes of cooking, remove it from the fire, take it to a clean dish and serve. This preparation can be accompanied with a healthy salad of arugula with parmesan. ### Chicken scrambled and vegetables should be served hot to preserve their flavor. ## I hope you can enjoy these scrambled chicken and vegetables and make your health shine! What are your favorite chicken recipes? Please tell me in the comments. I want to know which chicken recipe is popular in your country or which one you have adopted from another place in the world. Afromeals Okra Recipe

https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmQJ4xLvbDpZDEn1NywcuQvx4THzyE2JXWT5DyUCB1Kzjf/images%20(2).jpg
A delicious okra recipe prepared with tomato, spinach and Indian spices. This healthy dish is on the table in 20 minutes! For more recipes and ideas follow [Afromeals](https://afromealsnow.com/) website. #### Okra This exotic vegetable is full of vitamins and fine properties. I recently wrote an article with all the positive features in a row. You have to love it because okra has a specific taste. The texture is most comparable to the softness of eggplant. The taste is soft and slightly sweet. What distinguishes okra from other vegetables is the somewhat slimy texture.

images (2).jpg

#### Tip: use a dash of vinegar I got this tip from an Instagram follower: always use a dash of vinegar when [preparing okra](https://afromealsnow.com/2019/11/15/okra-reduces-bad-cholesterol/), which reduces the slimy structure. I think the slippery part of okra is so delicious, but this is a great tip to reduce it considerably. #### Curry-like okra My mom often made okra when I was still living at home. This recipe is therefore inspired by Indian/Bengali cuisine. Tasty with exotic, but very accessible spices that also make the dish healthier. Great for weekdays and the fast cooking princes and princesses among us: fixed in 20 minutes. Here the recipe.

images (3).jpg

#### Okra recipe with tomato and spinach * Prep time: 5 min * Cooking time: 15 min * Total time: 20 min A delicious spicy okra recipe inspired by Indian cuisine. This healthy dish will be on the table within 20 minutes. Serve with rice, bulgur or quinoa. * Course: Main course * Servings: 2 people * Kcal per serving: 200 kcal #### What do you need * 100 grams of okra * 1 small onion * 2 large tomatoes * 150 grams of spinach * 2 cloves of garlic * 2 red pepper seed lists removed if necessary * piece of fresh ginger (2 by 2 cm) * 1 tsp coriander powder * 1.5 tsp cumin powder * 1/4 tsp turmeric * a fingertip garam masala (if you have it at home) * 1 tsp of salt * dash of vinegar #### You have to do this

images.jpg

1. Wash the okras, cut the cups off and then cut them in half lengthwise. 2. Cut the tomatoes into cubes, peel and chop the onion, press the garlic cloves and fresh ginger (or mash into a mortar) and finely chop the red peppers (with or without seed list) 3. Now heat a tablespoon of oil in a large frying pan or wok and fry the garlic and ginger first. Add the chopped onion after half a minute and let it become nicely glassy over medium heat. 4. Put all the spices and salt in the pan and stir. Also, add the tomato cubes and about 75 ml of water. Let the tomatoes boil for about 3 minutes, so that you get a tomato puree. (Put a lid on the wok/frying pan) 5. Now add the okras with a dash of vinegar and stir well. Put another lid on the pan and let it simmer on a fairly low heat for about 7-10 minutes. Stir occasionally. 6. Finally, add the spinach, stir well. The spinach shrinks within about a minute. Turn on the fire. 7. Serve with bulgur, rice or quinoa. Let it taste to you! And do you ever make a recipe from me?

This photo is right beside of home and amazing place of my childhood time. We should start of making some practice and walking very early morning is one of them. I mean it’s good to walk at morning though but also in foggy morning you will feel the exact cold feeling and clouds touch at ground. — more fresh air — morning sunlights energy — good for skin as well — fresh mind / healthy — a bigger day

This was the way of our home. I took this when I was getting phone call that a friend was waiting for me and then I came and clicked this as start.
