@artemislives bought up a real good point about how symbolism can get out of control, misconstruing the original act or deed. She gives a wonderful example in which candles were used, which became very apparent during a Thai special day marking the beginning of the rain retreat. She also shows the contrast between burning natural beeswax candles and paraffin candles, highlighting the benefits of the natural candles. . Check out their post [here](https://steemit.com/naturalmedicine/@artemislives/buddhist-rains-retreat-shedding-light-on-the-symbolism-and-natural-medicine-of-candles). They write: > **Slowly modest temples became elaborate, wealthy, well lit and very comfortable, and the practical gesture of one sincere heart giving light to another morphed into something which is today almost-mandated by the Sangha - basically the College of Cardinals equivalent in formal Buddhism. Rather than have the people keep their much needed money (sweet goddess forbid!), the reason for giving candles was repackaged into a sort-of buying of indulgences - "making merit" or "ทำบุญ" as we call it in Thai - where your 600 Thai baht ($20) can 'absolve' you from your extra-marital flirtation or the fact that you steal from your boss.**
@samstonehill didn't ignore all those signs that were calling him to visit the Fountains Abbey in Yorkshire and I'm glad he didn't (he's probably glad he didn't too for it turned out to be a fabulous experience!) Not only did he get some fabulous pictures with his drone but he began to uncover the mysteries of the abbey and the healing energy contained there! A fabulous post that could inspire you to listen a little closer to what the universe is trying to tell you! Check out their post [here](https://steemit.com/history/@samstonehill/today-i-went-to-fountains-abbey-in-yorkshire-with-my-drone-because-it-has-been-calling-me-since-i-arrived-in-the-uk). They write: > **The Signs** **So, first there was the 'randomly' chosen picture which I painted.** **Then a woman in a motorhome campsite two months ago 'randomly' gave me a Fountains Abbey pamphlet on my way out saying that she thought I might enjoy visiting the place. Indeed I might.** **Finally, just 2 weeks ago a woman behind me in the queue at a shop whom I 'randomly' started chatting with also told me she thought I would enjoy visiting Fountains Abbey and even told me there was a direct bus from our village, Easingwold.** **Then I knew something really was up! There could be no further delay.** **When the Universe is giving us such clear signs and we simply must follow them..**
@jolly-homestead made a pledge to be more self-reliant with her move into a new home surrounded by dandelions. So what did she decide to use first for this venture? You guessed it - the dandelions! And she made a wonderful salve which she shared the step by step process for making it. Check out their post [here](https://steemit.com/homesteading/@jolly-homestead/dandelion-salve). They write: > **When I moved into my new house everywhere I looked was fields of those pesky yellow flowers or should I say weeds. Instead of destroying them I decided to look up ways of using them. Dandelions have many health benefacts that many people do not know. Dandelions have been used in traditional medicine for years all over the world. They are used to treat a myriad of physical ailments, including cancer, acne, liver disease and digestive disorders. It also has pain relieving and anti-inflammatory properties, so this salve is good for all kinds of sore and tired muscles and joints. Dandelion salve is also soothing and moisturizing for dry, cracked, and itchy skin. It would also work well as a lip balm for chapped lips. So with that being said I started on my first natural venture.**
