A slap on the tiny rear of a newborn brings that first important breath of life and with luck the child will be able to breath without artificial help for the rest of it’s life. Healthy lungs are not everyone’s God-given right. Many diseases can effect the lungs and cause symptoms like a feeling of suffocation. Emphysema, COPD and other lung diseases cause shortness of breath and if severe enough will make the person feel like they are suffocating-a frightening feeling. Most have a oxygen mask nearby for those times and sometimes they need the oxygen continually. With modern developments in medicine, a lung transplant may be the only help for patients with lungs destroyed by lung disease. Sleep Apnea has become a common problem and I know of two people who use a sleep apnea machine when sleeping so they won’t suffocate and die during the night. Lung cancer is the #1 cancer worldwide. The progression of this disease would effect the breathing. What can we do to keep lungs healthy? Eating properly with lots of fruit and veggies will always help the body.
