The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Alexion Pharmaceuticals’s drug Soliris (eculizumab) for rare autoimmune disease in adults. It is a novel drug for neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), a neurological condition that affects the central nervous system. The immune system attacks healthy cells and proteins in the spinal cord and optic nerves, each attack can have irreversible consequences.
