https://youtu.be/KGFUPSdATuw This video has three messages of value. The first message is that most health practitioners have been told at some point that glucose is necessary for the brain. This illustration demonstrates the amount of energy activation in the brain on a glucose restricted diet. Blues are an indication of poorer brain activity while red is an indication of higher activity. Under a diet with glucose most parts of the brain are active while certain areas suffer a deficit. Upon establish a glucose reduced/ketone based fuel source the first day the brain is starved for fuel ... indicating that it is unable to use the ketones as fuel. However by the fourth day the brain is fully acclimated and is much more active ... meaning that ketones are a more effective fuel.

This second illustration shows over time how the control group (young and healthy subjects) do not experience a "Brain Energy Gap" on a standard glucose rich diet. As people age increased memory problems is associated with less brain energy availability. Supplementation with MCT (Medium Chain Triglycerides) "bridges the brain gap".

This final illustration shows the length of time a particular source of ketones resides in the body. Her argument is that fasting once per week can train the body to supply its own ketones for longer periods of time.
