US Healthcare System

What people usually refer to as our healthcare system, I tend to think of as our disease care system. It seems to have a lot more to do with selling pharmaceuticals, than with improving people's health. Some of the larger health insurance companies are ramping up the push for healthier diets and lifestyles, as they realize this will improve their bottom line.

Years ago health insurance was for catastrophic circumstances. You would pay and then submit the bill for reimbursement. People didn't like this because they had to have cash up front. The insurance industry came up with the health care insurance which covered the general things now that catastrophic didn't. Doctor's visits for colds etc previously were not covered.

Then a new system (with the "for just a bit higher premium" sales jargon bs) - a copay system could be purchased that removed the need to pay the doctor. The premium is much higher but the convenience! No more having to pay up front! Everyone immediately signed up and this became the norm and the industry switched to this. Now the insurance industry has it's fingers on every medical transaction, not just catastrophic.

Today this health prevention kick being preached more and more in the industry. This is their system to increase profit and reduce payouts. Keeping you healthy is how they never pay but you keep paying them. Along with regulation and law with government intervention the people can be forced into a healthy lifestyle making life more profitable.
