So what is Horchata de Morro? Horchata is a very famous El Salvadorian drink and one of my family's favorite. It is a drink prepared from morro seeds which are grounded. It is also prepared with rice, cocoa beans, cinnamon, nutmeg, sesame seeds, coriander seeds and allspice and then some sugar and vanilla extract.

Morro beans/seeds which come from inside of the fruit.
Just looking at the ingredients you can tell it is a very healthy drink, plus the taste is amazing, but it is quite a different kind of drink since you have to mix it pretty much all the time since it has the powder like texture.
Some of the ***HEALTH BENEFIT*** in this delicious drink are: - Contains Vitamin C and E - Very rich in the minerals phosphorus, magnesium, iron, and calcium
There is also Mexican Horchata, which maybe you have tried, but that is a little bit different than El Salvadorian Horchata since horchata from Mexico is made out of rice and horchata in El Salvador is made out of Morro seed.
I was just so glad to find this El Salvadorian Horchata here in Vancouver, since there are few Latino stores that sell all kinds of Latin foods from all different Latin countries, which is so cool. We also buy some other El Salvadorian foods, which we were buying while living in El Salvador.
So today I made some Horchata, which my boys love. The recipe says to use water, but we always use half milk and half water and of course some ice, which makes it so much better. All you do is just mix the powdered drink with water or milk or both.
