There are some things you can do right now to increase your odds of survival. Yes, right NOW. You will need to think and rely on yourself. @smithlabs and @squirrelbait have teamed up to help you do just that. If you are on your own or the medical system is over run, you need options. We recommend you educate your self regarding natural anti-viral and anti-inflammatory options. Learn about them NOW. ***We are not health professionals*** but we both have personal experience dealing with medical conditions at home using "the Herbs of the field that, GOD has given us for medicine!" as he puts it. We both have experience treating a variety of illnesses and conditions at home without pharmaceuticals and would like to share what we know so you can consider the option. @smithlabs recently did a post titled ["A few thoughts on Chronavirus from China, and the Natural medicine way to stay safe on the Homestead!"](https://main.weku.io/journalist-io/@smithlabs/a-few-thoughts-on-chronavirus-from-china-and-the-natural-medicine-way-to-stay-safe-on-the-homestead) We have been talking about posting info for everyone and I asked him if we could work together on the herbal aspect of things as he is my go-to man on the topic. So, after his post we did an online interview in the comment section.
In this post I will give you the rundown of his recommendations followed by the interview. Enjoy and we hope this helps you and your family one day.
Here is what @smithlabs has to say about herbal anti-virals:
***"There are a number of herbals that have antiviral actions; of varying strengths. The King of herbs for fighting viruses is Echinacea (Purple Cone Flowers) may be the only recognized antiviral medicine in the World. I have even seen some work, where they are testing it as a possible treatment for AIDS."*** **EVERY Prepper or Homesteader, should have this in their First Aid Kit; along with 500PPM Colloidal Silver!** "**One Note here,** ***Echinacea is NOT intended for long term use, they speak of Immune exhaustion; because it soups up your own immune system. I have not seen good proof of this, but it is reasonable, does make sense; so I follow it myself. Two weeks is my personal limit, but I have had positive response in a single day. The time I feel relief, I double for the treatment time. As with everything else, the minimum use of all medicines is wise!"***
(picture by @smithlabs) ***"I am planting this out at the Homestead, and I think everyone should do the same!"*** ***"Now we move into the medium effective antiviral level herbals. There are a number of medium level herbs here."*** Picture from Pixabay of astragalus: [
](https://pixabay.com/images/search/astragalus/)
***"This is a good medium level Herbal, that is also taken for energy, and can be taken more often."*** ***"The next Medium one has no picture, because it is sap gum from Palm trees. They call it Dragon Blood, but it is listed above Garlic which is also a Medium antiviral."*** ***"Garlic is one in this level of effectiveness. This was the Very first herbal I started using (for gastric Reflux) and has so many positives that everyone should be taking Garlic, every day! Professionals recommend doubling doses to fight Viruses. Some argue that fresh garlic is better, and they are likely right. BUT a capsule a day is better than fresh once in a while...."*** ***"Goldenseal is also a medium antiviral that is common here. A note here, everyone is different, and I personally can NOT take this herb, it tears up my stomach; but doesn't seem to bother anyone else. This is often used with Echinacea, as it is also an Immune Stimulant containing berberine. I should also be limited use, just for caution."*** ***"Juniper is used in tea format as a medium antiviral. This is actually recommended for the common cold, LOL! Not as commonly recommended as an herbal."*** ***"Regular herbal uses include, According to www.our4corners.net:***" ***">strengthens the stomach and act as a digestive tonic; loss of appetite; to improve digestion; gout; relieving water retention; kidney infections; kidney stones; and other urinary problems. They also make Gin from these berries, LOL!"*** ***"Lemon Balm (Melissa Officinalis) is another good medium antiviral, often used as a tea. It is good a treatment for Herpes."*** ***"According to www.our4corners.net"*** ***">Common use: Insomnia; nervousness; irritability; anxiety; stress; nervous indigestion; gas; colic; nausea; headaches; colds; fevers; menstruation (irregular); spasms.***" ***"Licorice Root is active against viruses because it contains glyeyrrhizin, which is known to interrupt virus replication and cell penetration. Best use is root steeped for about 15 minutes to make a tea. I also like the taste myself."*** "***According to www.our4corners.net:"*** "***>Common use: Culinary; coughs; colds; bronchitis; sore throat; hoarseness; allergies; acid indigestion; gastritis; ulcers; adrenal tonic; energy; stress; blood purifier; endocrine and hormone support."*** "***Shiitake Mushrooms is the last medium level herbal I know about (I am sure there are more, add some if you like) because it contains Lentinan which fights Virals, and Tumors; including Viral Encephalitis! It is best taken in food, IMHO."*** ***"It also helps reduce Colesterol, so this is an 'often used' item."*** ***"The low level (but still effective) herbals will just be listed, because this is getting to be a long post."*** ***"Eucalyptus, Forsythia, honeysuckle, and Ginger round out the antivirals."***
**Squirrel Bait Addition**: Anti-inflammatories
>***Ginger Root*** This is an nice anti-inflammatory. I have been using it as such for over 30 years now. It is my go to medicine for colds and flu. My brother has an autoimmune disease and suffers from chronic inflammation and he uses it as well. We both use Ginger root in tea and not Ginger from the spice isle. Just add two peeled slices to your water, boil, then add your favorite tea. We use green tea as it has anti-inflammatory properties as well and twice a day is my standard. Easy, and in my experience, effective. It is available in most grocery stores. >***Green Tea*** These plant compounds are powerful antioxidants. They fight free radicals, which are compounds that can damage your cells. According to the Arthritis Foundation, polyphenols have strong anti-inflammatory properties. Green tea is a particularly good source of epigallocatechin 3-gallate (EGCG). (www.healthline.com › health › rheumatoid-arthritis-green-tea). Available in most grocery stores or bulk tea shops. >Others include Tumeric, honey (add that to your tea-yum!), and apples. >Also Pine needles can be boiled and made into tea as a source of vitamin C. Available in most neighborhoods and parks.
Interview With Squirrel Bait
**Squirrel Bait**: What part of the Echinacea plant is used if you were to gather some? the leaves? Eat them or make tea? ***Smith Labs***: All parts of the plant are used, Roots and Flowers are preferred. But the roots are listed as working like Interferon. The doses are taken both in capsules, and in tea. It seems to be personal preference there. **Squirrel Bait**: Can you please explain what 500PPM Colloidal Silver is. I know there are many folks out there who have never heard of it. ***Smith Labs***: Colloidal or Ionic silver is listed by concentration in Parts Per Million (PPM). You need to be careful, because a lot on health food stores carry colloidal silver in 10 PPM, which is worthless because the strength is too low to be effective. I never go below 250 PPM. That said, Colloidal Silver is a strong antibiotic, and even resistant bacteria is killed by Silver. Please note that as with ALL antibiotics, silver should be followed by Probiotics to repair digestion damage caused by the antibiotic as it does it's job. Normal antibiotics work by interrupting the reproduction of the bacteria, but silver works by interrupting the Respiration of that same bacteria. The final effect is that the bacteria dies in an hour with silver, instead of over a week with normal antibiotics. **Squirrel Bait Addition**: >By they way, Colloidal silver is the term used to describe tiny particles of silver suspended in a liquid. ... Summary Colloidal silver is a suspension of silver particles in a liquid. It's an ancient remedy that was once used to treat bacterial, viral and fungal infections.(www.healthline.com › nutrition › colloidal-silver) **Squirrel Bait**: Where can folks get Shiitake Mushrooms? I am not familiar with those. ***Smith Labs***:These are sold for food (taste great) at most good grocery stores, I have even seen them at Walmart grocery stores. You should try some. **Squirrel Bait**: What part of the juniper bushes do we use and how do we use them? I bet folks have those in their neighborhoods and parks. Even this time of year I bet this is something people could easily stock up on for free saving money for other needed medical supplies. ***Smith Lab***:The berries are the medicinal part of the plant, and are easy to harvest and store. **Squirrel Bait**: Immune exhaustion yes. Zinc is the same way and should only be used while symptomatic. Start at the first signs. I have to remember to mention that. So yeah, makes sense Echinacea is the same way. ***Smith Labs***:I have not found the science behind this Immune exhaustion; However, It is so logical that people man not have bothered to study it. **Squirrel Bait**: Garlic, yes, many people have that around the house now. Fresh is always best vs powdered or tablets. The more natural the better. ***Smith Labs***:Another one that is logical is garlic, because it does so many good things; including antiviral. I have Elephant Garlic growing right now, because it has the same compound as normal garlic, with a milder taste. **Squirrel Bait**: Would you also advise avoiding sugar during an outbreak too? I know sugar adds to the inflammatory process. Carbs then too. What are your thoughts about that? ***Smith Labs***: Sugar is the modern Poison, so it should NEVER be consumed! It is perfect food for cancer also, so we haven't used it in decades here. If you use Xyletol, with a tiny amount of stevia, you have a safe sugar substitute. Thank you @smithlabs for sharing your knowledge with us. It is always a pleasure to work with you. Check out his blogs! A few thoughts on Chronavirus from China, and the Natural medicine way to stay safe on the Homestead!: https://main.weku.io/journalist-io/@smithlabs/a-few-thoughts-on-chronavirus-from-china-and-the-natural-medicine-way-to-stay-safe-on-the-homestead There are many places where you can order herbs online. My favorite quality source that I have been using for years is **Mountain Rose Herbs**. Here is a link to their website: https://www.mountainroseherbs.com/ We say, boost your immune system NOW! Reduce your sugar intake and increase your intake of vitamin C. Lemon juice in your water or tea, Vitamin C supplements, Pine needle tea, or Vitamin C drops. Eat as healthy as you can like avoiding processed foods. Build up your defenses! Be as strong as you can be inside and out. Exercise. Get enough sleep. Practice good hygiene. Also, stress and fear compromises your immune system so be aware of that! Relax. No need to fear if you are prepared.
